Hi There,
I just recently purchase a car with an rx7 1982 12a engine and the beehive oil cooler is not connected to the radiator coolant, I found a cap line just under the beehive oil cooler but I can not find the other and not sure which connection is the input or output in the beehive, here attache is a picture for your review, thank you in advance for your help?

You will want to hook the oil cooler up if you want to have a healthy engine. That is a water to oil oil cooler. Unless you have a front mount oil cooler, hook up the coolant lines and use it.

The lower line goes to a water outlet line near the oil pressure sender. The upper line hooks to a rubber hose and that hooks to the heater core.

Your car came from the factory with a front mount oil cooler. The long hose that connects the oil cooler to the heater core is not available any longer. On the passenger side of the car, there is a long metal pipe that runs from the radiator to the firewall. In front mount cars (1970-1983, 1984-1985 GSL-SE) that long pipe does not have a "T" at the fire wall. In 1984-1985 non-GSL-SE cars, there is a "T" where the long hose for the beehive attaches. Look to see if you even have that long metal pipe with the "T".

If it was mine, I go back to the front mount oil cooler.

If this engine is not in an RX-7, the concept is the same but there are a lot of variables that come into play.

Bottom radiator hose. The RX-7 radiator has what I'll call a "T" on the lower metal portion. That connects to a long metal tube that supplies the heater core and "T" to the beehive.

The outlet of the heater core goes to the "T" portion on the engine that faces toward the firewall. I know this is hard to explain in words without pictures.

I tried to find some pictures in the service manual and parts micro fiche but it;s very lacking.

it would be much easier to ditch the beehive and go front mount. I'm sure your radiator is much smaller.

So if I understand this correct, if I have no heater connection, the top of the beehive needs to be connected to the bottom radiator hose, in the future I am also planing to connect an external oil cooler but for now the heehive will work.
