Update- I found the NGK plugs,installed new airfilter,put 10-40 down the carb throats,double checked the wire,(sparkplug), order, gave it a short shot of ether, and it fired up, and ran fairly smoothly, at a 2000 rpm range.
I ran it about 1 or 2 minuites, and my son said - turn it off, you are shooting black fluid out the exhaust pipe.
I looked, and the left tip only, was wet with what appears to be fuel.It was dripping out , on a uphill,(to the rear), slant, in my driveway.
The oil looks good,and both leading plugs are dry, and appear to be firing.
I tried to start again, and it won't start.The fuel pump is tapping away at a very fast clip,(faster than it was before it started.)
The left exhaust tip has left a trail 5 inches wide, and 30 inches long, of fuel,(smells fairly fresh, not varnish), running down the driveway.I am thinking the muffler/ cat must be full.
I am wondering if I sucked some dirt/water, and plugged the fuel filter, (no start).
what next? Thanks Mark
Does anybody have a recomendation, for a good guy to take it to in Denver/
Littleton Colorado? ( Mechanic)

Check the fuel level in the float bowls. There are windows on the front and back of the carb, but you may need a small mirror to see the rear side. The fuel level should be halfway. My guess is that the float is stuck, which is flooding the engine...

Success!!!!

Did the NGK plugs, pulled the car, (on a trailer), to the carwash, fired it up , and ran about 2000 rpm for probably 10 minuites.... It finally quit smoking, cleared up completely, starts and runs good!!!
I did take the top of the carb off, andcleaned the bowls.But they were not really bad at all.The needles, for floats, look to be in great shape.I did break the carb gasket, when the top pulled off.
I now have a "moan", from the intake , at idle, and my brother discovered that if he puts his fingers over the holes inside the aircleaner housing, (with the top off), that the idle slows down, smooths out, and the moan goes away.
any ideas on this newest malady?
Thanks everyone for your patience, and advice,I assure you NONE of us have ever seen a car this flooded. It smoked so bad, I could not run it at home long enough to clear it.I was just sure the housing seals were sucking coolant and/ or oil.
There are no insects left alive for miles!!!

Post a pic of which hole is being plugged in the air cleaner assembly, and what it goes to is you happen to know. The full carb manual is in a link in the archives.

Buy a carb kit and replace the broken gasket, it may help the high idle, which is often caused by vacuum leaks.

I may have missed it, but I don't think anyone mentioned vacuum hoses. If the hoses are the originals, it would be a good idea to spend a few dollars and replace all the vacuum lines. You have several options. I'm cheap and just buy bulk hose at the hardware store, but you can get better hoses and colored hoses from other sources.

Trochoid- I took the car to the body shop, to see about some faded spots in the paint, so can't post pictures.I don't know where they go, but he plugged all of the small holes, on the bottom of the air cleaner housing,(inside, with the lid removed), and it smoothed out, and dropped rpm's to a smooth idle.Everything but the main throats of the carb.
Is there a pcv valve?
Olathe- All of the vaccuum hoses look to be in good condition.I know that is hard to believe, but this car has not been dinked with, I have to twist the hoses, to break their seal, on the various attachment points. They are also fairly soft, and pliable.
Not saying you are wrong,but I would think they are pretty good.

The 2 smaller vacuum hoses to the bottom of the stock carb supply vacuum. One is a bi-metalic valve that opens and closes, don't remember what it's for, the other is the main vac supply to the rats nest. There is a pcv, check the FSM and the rats nest removal writeup for what you can do with it. Being in Littleton, I assume you are subject to the metro emissions, so most everything will need to go back stock.
