1979 sa trouble

so im having some problems with my first gen the from sparks plugs the ones that are closer to the radiator have alot of carbon deposit on them while the rear spark plugs are clean. the car sounds like its running on one rotor, i have check the compression of the motor many time its it seem really good since it only has 71k miles on it. do u guys think this could be related to the timing? or some thing with the distributor ? also it will not idle without the choke.

Mods:
Rat nest removed ( I didn't do this my self)
Rebuild carb by my self

I would start checking to make sure you have spark on the front rotor. If both the leading and
trailing on one rotor are not getting spark I would suspect either the coil or the ignitor, but in the
79s case it would be the points and coil.

If you have spark then I would start looking at the carb and intake. Checking for vacuum leaks
and so on.

lets see here
i had that same problem with the car not idling unless the choke was out and i ended up fixing that problem with a carburator rebuild kit from autozone which cost abouts 20 bucks i think. it turns out the reason the choke is needed to make the car idle is because of the jets and accelerator pump check ball was missing i think on mine.....so rebuild the carb is my suggestion.

also i guess vaccum leaks out of the carburator, buy the block of kit stuff from re-speed.com for the airpump if you havent already, cause that helps and check all your lines, there isnt that many since the rat nest is removed

i also wanna say on the account that have a 1979 7' also is upgrade your points for your distrubutor. the point system in my opinion is kind of outdated and could use improvement.
with my point distrubotor i had the points were to corroded so it wasnt making contact anymore
hope this helps

i rebuilt the carb and it ran fine do u think i could of clog the carb by putting the mmo tru the carb? the only thing that we adjusted were the timing n the air fuel mixture

Stop messing with different things and concentrate on figuring out the root cause,
then try fixing some things.

If your sure you have spark on those leading plugs, then pull em and clean them or
get new ones. Could be they are just so fowled that they don't fire well.

It takes 3 things to make an engine run, spark, fuel and timing it right. So make sure
you have spark. Then make sure fuel is getting to those rotors and then verify the
timing is right.

You say it ran good after you rebuilt the carb. When did it exactly start running bad
then? What things did you do up to that point? Start reversing those actions. This
isn't rocket science, just slow down and think about it.

i got to run again the reason i was messing with the timing n carb is because when i first got it it needed a new dizzy(and i did not kno how to set the timing on the new one i had to get) and the carb was not getting any fuel to the bowls thats why i was messing with everything lol. so i got it to run by adjusting the air fuel ratio fixing the timing and getting new leading plugs and got rid of all the vacuum leaks . i dove head first into the first gen world lol.
