1979 Air Pump cleanup question

Found a great posting on the clean up of a stock air pump posted in 1999. Thanks. Only one thing missing. How do you remove the pulley? Thanks, Herb

Remove the three retaining bolts from the front; it comes right off. Unless it's rusted in which case a lil mallet percussion may be required.

There are no bolts on the front of what I am looking at. I'm trying to remove the pulley from the front of what I call the air pump. I've also heard it called a smog pump. Aluminum case cast iron cap with 4 hex bolts holding it on. Has a cykinder that spins inside with 2 viens (like apex seals) sticking out. Mine is from an SA22 could it be different?

Mine is an SA as well.... Maybe you're not talking about the pulley (which has a belt groove), but the pulley HUB? The hub doesn't 'come off,' it's part of the shaft.

I'll link up some pix of one diassembled for cleaning; wait one.

The drum, front shaft bearing, and the hub (as far as I was willing to experiment) don't come apart, but you can clean refurbish the unit without removing them, repacking the vane bearings and cleaning out all the accumulated crud & debris.

The rear cover is press-fit; after removing the screws you have to drive it off carefully with a brass drift or other impact device.

You know, I'd forgotten I wrote that one - - thought it was buried in my build thread somewhere. Thanks for the re-link!
