I measured the angles and dimensions of the bracket, and even made a cardboard and CAD model. Flattening the bracket will not result in the slots lining up exactly 20mm rearward in the same plane. Not saying it won't work, just that it is not the exactly correct geometry. If you flattened your bracket and haven't had any ill effects, congratulations. It does not cost anything but some welding gas and scrap stock to lengthen the mount; the holes will be in the exact positions and the mount can be used interchangeably with either a 12A or 13B engine.

I dont understand why i would need a different oil pan im using the 12a tranny stock 13 short block with carb but with a 12a front housing so that it mounts at the front and bolts right in so the engine would be behind the crossmemeber and it is a 12a chassis fb

If you have the car and both oil pans, you should be able to hold them in the position and see for yourself. The 12A oil pan dips down between the cross member and the steering. The re-shaping modification I mentioned was necessary to make the 13B pan fit in the same space (simply heat the pan up with a torch and work it into shape with a hammer and dolly).
