OR 13b intake 85 niki carbed 12a (searched)

I am working on my swap and kinda stuck. my car is a 85 gs with a now removed 12a. I just got a 13b from a 86 GXL and have done the front cover replacement for the motor mount bar thing. My question is this. the ports on the 13b are different from the one on my 12a. I want to use my intake and Niki carb with this setup. I don't beleave the manifold will work and was looking for some sugestions. I know it would be easier to just put a holly on but I'm a poor student. any input would be great!

I think an older 4port13b intake manifold will work. then use the stock hitachi carb or maybe the nikki will mount. i could be wrong. maybe jeff20b might chime in or another rotaryguru.

the older 13b manifold will bolt up iirc but your motor is a 6port and the manifold is designed for a 4port, so the ports may not line up. To use the nikki on the older (rx4) manifold you need to drill new holes and tap them for the mount studs.

to clarify

so just to clarify. i have to scrap my 12a manifold and get a 13b manifold and than modify it for the mounting bolts, than all i need to do is mount on my nikki.

If you are using the 12a nikki, then you are undercarbed.

Don't bother going through all the trouble of modifying a manifold, just get an aftermarket. Save you $$ and headaches.

Also, the GXL motor you have is a 6 port, your manifold is not designed to run it. Best to just get the lower intake manifold of the stock 6 port, and get the RB upper manifold adapter and run a carburetor that way.

I have a 13B stocker mani of you need it.

Check with Sterling to see if there is an adapter you can use to mount the Nikki to the 13B mani.

You'll still have the problem with the ports. You'll need a 6 ports manifold. I'm not sure if Racing Beat made a 6 ports manifold for a 13b that would hold a 4 barrel carb but you might start there.

the hitachi carb that mounts to the older 13b manifolds has the same bore spacing but different carb mounting points. the nikki has a smaller bolt pattern, so you need to drill 4 new mount holes for the carb and tap them for the studs. This is really all trivial since your using a 6port motor. Your best bet, like others have stated, is to use an upper manifold designed to mount on your 6port lower and hold a carb (RB, jaytec?)

the stock nikki will run a 13b no problem, but will need some modifications. Sterling is your man here, if your committed to running a nikki.

If you have access to parts why not swap the EFI system from the 86, or run a megasquirt or similar?

Hes broke though. So a sterling carb it kinda outa the question. Is there anyone the knows whether or not a older 4port manifold has the same bolt pattern a a 6port?

Bolt patterns aren't even close to matching, not to even mention the exhaust gas passage ways.

No link. I have an old RE 13B intake and s4/NA intake gaskets. They don't match. Appreciate the fact that I went out to the shop and dug them out for compatability.

You can run the 12a on a 13b if you get a Racing Beat intake and redrill it for the 12a. I ran the same setup on my 7 when I transplanted everything over from a SE that had FI electrical problems. The only slight problem was that you have to premix, unless you are able to rerun the oil injection rod and lines.

Tweakit has the adapters. I made one for our car to see if I can beat the price. Not worth it unless I made 20+ at a time. Not that many need them.
