13B carbed vs. FI
just got back from the first autox of the year. suspension and tire set up was great!! still need to get that all tuned in, but it was excellent! anyway, i want some more power, and i want to know which is cheaper/easier. full exhaust is a given, but as far as intake, which would be better? im deciding between a K&N cone setup (easiest and cheapest), or I think I could get a good carb fairly cheap from a guy here. would the performance carb give better performance than stock FI with a cone? I don't care about emissions or noise or anything like that, just raw power. what do you guys think?

Damn, it did start!
If I could have found Dave Disney's write up on his SE project raise hell project. But in a nut shell the FI had a better powerband.

Why do you need more power?
are you running pure race slicks and adjustable suspension and leave the pedal to the floor the whole time?
I've seen Restrictive EFI GSL-SE setups that have run mid 14's in the 1/4 and still break loose R compound tires at the AutoX.

I just re-read the post.. Sorry but i think it would be better to keep the FI system.. just get a K&N filter. it won't really give you much more power though.
But compared to doing an aftermarket EFI system a carb would be much cheaper. There is no real reason to go aftermarket EFI unless you are running a turbo..
If you really want to go with an aftermarket EFI i would sugest scraping the whole intake system too, and maybe running a TWM Throttle body on top of a webber manifold.

Dont 1991 N/A intake setups, flow better?
I thought I read somewhere that a 91 N/A intake system on a stock 13B(GSL-SE), with a good after market ECU, would put your HP, at about 160-210... Am I right? I am just curious.... If I had a stock GSL-SE, and was looking for a intake system, that I can find fairly easy, at ajunk yard.... what would it be? THANX, LATERZ, Andrew

I fellow crosser here in Dallas has a se motor with an old haltech set up, on the dyno(rear wheel) he gets 160hp, pretty good! I had the same set up but had a dellorto and we swaped back and forth in racing from 1st to 2nd. I never dynoed my car to know the hp? You can run a carb in CSP. You cant run a 86 and up set up though. You can only run what was offered in that body style. I tried running a 13b 4 port with a holley, I got protested at a divisional event.....pretty expensive test! I was very pleased with my RB intake and dellorto. By the way dont attempt to port the motor at all and run a divisional in CSP, they will tear you down if you are fast!

adssoccer, you are correct, sorry about that! You can run any intake. Just cant run any thing different, as far as a motor, that came in the 79-85. Also, if you dont already have one, you may want to look into getting the gear set out of a SE(4.11?) a little gainer there!
