12A..what do you guys think
i have a 12A that i am considering installing in an 85 GSL that i have. this engine was actually in my very first RX-7 believe it or not. i think the mileage was around 150k or 160K but i can't be certain. it ran great and i pulled it when i scrapped the car due to a seperation of the wheel wells and control arms. at any rate, its been sitting inside for close to 10 years. it was at one time carbon locked form sitting. that was resolved quite some time ago. i've been cleaning it up and trying to restore compression and i think its getting there. if the pulses get a little more even i think i'll try and use it. the engine has a fair amount of MMO in it and every day it sits and soaks and i turn it by hand and then with the drill it seems to sound stronger and stronger. here's a video of the engine:
Sounded like it was gonna start up!
I bet a corner seal spring is not sealing, so it acts kind of like a bad apex seal. The OEM wire spring can get carboned up and stuck in the down position. The NF01 type, found in FDs and 20Bs seem less susceptible to getting stuck this way. They provide more lift, too.

umm..for some reason i dont think that its supposed to spin that freely..if you can do it with a drill..it might have low compression. isent it supposed to have some good resistance?

right now, just keeping it stock to save money and get the 85 GSL back on the road. i've dont some minor porting to the intake manifold..just gasket matching and some machining of the flanges to ensure that they are 100% flat and even.

they do spin freely. the dewalt drill i'm using is a torque monster though so it kinda makes it seem as though it spins effortlessly
