12A twin dizzy

Does anyone know if this motor (which was used originally in the capella rx2 - I think - can be mated with a first gen or second gen rx7 gearbox ? Reason i ask this question is the following : I have a stock standard 82 first gen rx7 with 12A motor. A friend has just smashed his rx-2 capella after spending $ rebuilding his 12A motor (twin dizzy) - i think was stopped in '73/'74 - he had the engine p-ported and fitted a 52 weber IDA. The 'box he uses is a 4 speed with top mounted starter. I'd like to stick this motor in my first gen rx7 and want to know if any of you guys have mated this particular motor to a first gen rx7 gearbox. Or even a second gen turbo ii gearbox cos i have one of those too. I know I need to change the stick position on the tii gearbox if i want to mount it in the first gen, but will the bell housing fit the 12A twin dizzy ? BTW, mate got 280hp out of 12A twin dizzy P-port with 52 IDA

I believe the biggest difference with the twin dizzy is the front cover. That may be the biggest problem. If it will take the 7 front motor mount bar, you should be good to go.

You will need the appropriate starter, flywheel and clutch set-up for which ever tranny you choose to install. Depending on which Series of 7 and which tranny, the tail shaft will need to be modded accordingly.

I wish the p-ports were as popular here is the states, as they are down under.

it takes the front mount bar just fine

it was the box i'm worried about

like i said, the rx2 box is available with top mount starter. cluth and flywheel also available. However the box is only 4 speed.

also, I have the first gen box available and a 2nd gen turbo ii

some people swear by p-ports here. others say bridge port is better as there is more low down torque

I'm pretty sure you can mount the 1st gen tranny to the earlier model 12a motors, but I don't know why you'd want to. Those motors werent very good. They had WIDE apex seals, and they didn't seal very well. They improved them on the 1st gen. If this is your only option, go for it, but it's not the best option.

I know a guy who has an Rx-2 with a 1st gen tranny in it. I think he went to a newer engine too, though.

ok guys, thats it. I'm not going to stick the twin dizzy in the rx7. I'll get my 12a p-ported or go for the 13b turbo setup

Your refering to the 6mm Carbon Apex seals? They work very very good for PP applications,as they seal better than the 2mm ones that the PP guys normally put in.

Its very easy to build a Rx2 motor PP with very good torque, and allot of topend,as their exhaust port timing is allot different to the normal ones.Their timing is allmost like the MFR 12A PP housings, they open later, for less overlap.

As for the gearbox. The bellhousing of the Series 2 Rx7 box, will mate up to the Rx2 engine.I`am not sure if the shifter will sit in the same location though. You will have to check it first
