12a Turbo?
What's up guys, I have a starlet with a 12a in it and was thinking about picking up a turbo 12a swap and using the motor and turbo but putting my holley kit on it. Has anyone here done that setup? If so what do you think? Thanks

You're far better off turboing the 12A you already have in there than swapping the funky jap 12at in there.

search for posts created by FB II, talk to robert at rotary shack, check the archives. Those three places will give you more than enough information about doing a blow-through turbo setup on your car. Also, search for other posts about this, there are about a billion.

Only Japan got the 12AT efi engine. They are rare and expensive and you will need a replacement ecu.
The best way is to start with a 12A and add a blow through turbo set-up using a slightly modified stock carb. It is relatively cheap compared with the 12AT option.
Whether you go ahead will in part depend on the state of your existing engine. It is a 20+year old engine, adding a turbo may need you to rebuild it. Will the Starlet transmission stand the strain?
