12A turbo

Can anyone give me some information/specs on a 12A turbo. I wanted to swap one in place of my 12A N/A. Anything would be appreciated.

There are major problems with transplanting a 12AT into a non-EFI car due to wiring, fuel line, and control problems. Plus you need a good intercooler to get full benefit. I suggest a 13B transplant is much better especially if you are getting a rebuild with good porting and upgrade the secondary chokes. If all goes well you sould be up around the 170 bhp mark without too many installation problems

1984 convertible with 12A and reasonable engine mods such as header and carb/air filter. What makes it fast point to point are chassis, suspension, tyre and brake upgrades,

Your saying i would have the wiring, fuel line and control problems if i went to a 13BT? Does my 12A na have a ecu, maybe a dumb question. I just dont want to do a 12AT conversion on the assumption that it is easier than a 13BT. The biggest reason i wanted to do a 12AT was because i thought more stuff would just bolt right up.

Hello,
If your looking for a 12AT we have 2 in stock.

1 is an early points engine 160hp can be converted to elec. by using parts from your stock dizzy.

1 is a later with 165 but is locked up but good for rebuild

EFI all you need is a fuel controller, SDS, Wolf, Haltech, ect...
the Haltech is $740. give or take a few bucks. I would suggest getting it from the HITMAN he already has the fuel maps made up. Just plug and go. Only other thing youll need is a down pipe 2nd gen. down pips fit and have the same 3 bolt flange then get your exhuast welded to it and a fuel pump your done. E-mail me and ill tell you what pump to use.

I was planning on the same swap, I just got tired of waiting for a motor
i opted for an TII.

Oh buy the way my name is Chris and I work for Corksport

Thanks alot chris. The idea of rebuilding a rotory seems a bit tough, since ive only done some serious work and never on a rotary. But it could be an option, i would rather focus on just swaping one in, but i wouldn't mind hearing your spin on rebuilding.

If i were to do the swap id take the older engine and with your stock 12A distributor and the one from the 12AT swap in the magnetic pick-ups and youll have the same HP. The newer engine has better spark therfore can run a bit more timing 165hp, the 12AT makes full boost at 1500 rpms (6lbs) and tapers of about 6500 a great street motor, If you want to intercool it that would help but youll lose some boost responce.
Id water inject it that way youll keep the factory look and manifold and up the boost

On another note I would not try to rebuild a 12AT the parts are a bit rare. Mainly the Rotors and center plate.

Racing Beat currently has 5 pairs of 12AT rotors in stock, a steal at $450 a PAIR... great if you have the correct counterweights, which RB does NOT have in stock

What's so special about the center plate? I'm assuming it's the old style with no coolant O-ring grooves and has injector bosses, like a GSL-SE center plate, but it has larger ports like a normal 12A? If I'm right, why not just use the -SE center plate and live with a little less top end and a little more bottom end? (It sounds like that engine is all bottom-end anyway...)

Additionally, got any sort of special deal on the "junk" engine? Like you said, core's probably no good but the accessories could be useful... like the turbo manifold, and boost retarding dizzy... a 12AT would be pretty neat, not be as powerful as an -SE of course, but neat.
