theres a little housing wear :P, and a few mangled stat gear teeth
the funny part is the day before i pulled it i went for a drive and it still had a ton of power, rattled a little but pulled hard.

amazing it ran at all with all of the dammage, can the housing be polished or is that enough dammage requiring replacement, also with the damage to the gear inside the rotor, will that rotor need to be replace as well ?

Looks like a spun rotorbearing (been there)
Things happen for a reason, you really wanted to port it anyway

yeah i was amazed it ran as well as it did when i pulled it, the large grooves in the ront rotor housing are really deep, i dont have a guage but i would guess about .5mm-.6mm deep easily.

that stat gear and the front rotor are fuct lol

why do you think the rotor housing started to wear away like that? under oiling, too much heat or just too many revs?

yeah isaac you just didnt have the proper mods for the RPM range you showed that motor, the evidence is pretty clear right there. Next time id invest into some race bearings, and higher flow oil pump, new housings, and some hardended stationary gears.

That outta do the trick

the housings started to wear away because the rotor was hitting them. i think the rotor bearing wore enough to let the rotor hit and that much movement destroyed the gear.

oh, and my car was never down, 12a came out and stage 2 intake/race port exhaust 13b went in the next day :P

you should see what happens to rx8 housings since they dont have a peripheral exhaust port.... no exit for a broken apex seal!!

I recently tore down an se motor that had the same damage as your second housing pic.,(very disappointing).
It's strange that my rotors have no damage, nor the gears. I thought it was called flaking.
It seems to me that there would have to be quite a bit missing in order for the rotor to make contact with the housing. Why would it be toward the side of the housing? Mine are worn/flaked on the forward side of each housing, if the eccentric shaft was bowing, wouldn't the wear be on the front and rear, or the center of the engine?
I really don't know, but I'd like to.

Wow, thats pretty bad, but I tore apart an S4 TII engine that had "no compression" on the rear rotor. When I took the rear plate off, I knew why. All three apex seals were in 3 or more pieces, there were very deep gouges everywhere on the rotor housing and rotor, and there was a actually an impression of a piece of one of the apex seals on the rotor. Not a gouge, and actual impression on the rotor. All three apexes of the rotor were destroyed, corners of them folded over, gouges half as deep as the apex groove, and just general destruction of internal parts. The rear and intermediate plates looked in excellent condition though. Not even the slightest gouge. Needless to say, the rotor and housing are trash.

wow

Still, it got 173,000 AND had power while doing it. It probably would have kept going until the teeth were worn smooth or engine went nuklear.

After seeing an N/A 12A running like that, I really gotta' love the unbustableness of the engines.
