12a starting problem

Hi Guys,

I dropped a 12a engine I had laying around into my Starlet, the thing is that the engine cranks and it even sounds like it is going to fire up but it doesn't.

The engine was on the ground for 9 months after I made the purchase and I don't know how long it has been sitting before I purchased it.

We checked the spark and it was all good, we were putting the fuel directly thru the carb and the mechanic said like it sounds to have one stuck seal after trying to fire her up several times and nothing didn't happen.

I made this vid when it was laying around(Cheap compression test) and some members gave it a go after viewing it

The mechanic also said that we can push the car on the road and try to fire up with the gears(I don't know how you say that in English, but you get the idea :P).

I have read that seafoam do wonders and I have 1 can on my hands, should I dump a few ounces down the carb and give it a day to try again ?

What else can I do to fire her up???

I will try on Monday to record a vid so you guys watch what the engine does.

Thanks.

An overnight soaking with Sea Foam or Marvel mystery oil can do wonders for stuck seals. I'd make sure the timing is set correctly. Look at Wacky's pictures in this thread.

and, if it still doesn't start, push start it like your mechanic suggested.

try pouring seafoam/MMO in through the spark plug holes, spin the engine a big pour a bit more spin it...repeat about 2 more times then let it sit overnight. But definitely don't try to crank it anymore until you do this in case you can still save it lol.

Damn I hope I can save it , I will dump the seafoam tomorrow then and try on tuesday to fire her up.

So is better not to bother that much trying to get it running because it will damage some internals parts, am I right ?

Thanks.

+1 on timing.

When i rebuilt my engine I somehow put my pulley back on 90* off. It would crank, semi catch then nothin then semi catch like it was trying reeeeeeaaaalllly hard to start, but turned out it was WAY off on timing.

So do the check that your timing is close.

Make sure that the timing is correct. If that is not the problem, then it is probably just flooded. Dump a couple of ounces of Seafoam down the small barrels on the carb and give it a try. That will usually be enough to get a flooded rotary running again. Good luck...

Thank you guys for all your inputs, I came from the shop and dumped a few ounces thru the carb and some thru the 2 top spark plug holes while spinning it with a wrench. I will try tomorrow to fire her up again.

Well guys the engine didn't fire up today after dropping almost a can of sea foam thru the carb and thru the spark plug holes, there is no compression on the rear rotor so that will do it to pull the engine down and tear it apart and see whats wrong in there.

Hopefully I dont have to buy the whole rebuild kit, we will see.
