12A sounding like V8??

My 12Astock with Rats Nest still in it. I was out driving pushing it a little than i decided to take it easy ok, i start off and notice power loss and the sound is defirent, ok start driving and it sounds like a V8 ideling and it has no power i run it in the RPM's let off and the decelaration Compression sounds perfect, but than i get back on it and it sounds like a V8 again and it has no power, it just started while driving. I tried the ignitors and the dizzy cap, neither one. I have the 2nd gen direct fire setup, I dont know if i blew the 2nd gen coil or what? someone please help??? thanks

Mine does the same damn thing like everytime it rains, so it seems to me that its something electrical. I think its my points and condensors (stupid '79 ignition). Sorry I can't help, but I know exactly what you're talking about.

Its clear you both need to drive a V8 to refresh your memory. Go to the nearest Chevy dealership & test drive a Corvette immediately. I've never heard my 7s sounding like my 240Z.

yup....car sounds liek v8 with a blown seal somewhere.

Check the plugs to see if they are fouled too, could be a bad leading plug as someone stated.

Ok when it did it i pulled over and did the redneck thing put right hand on body of car(metal) and left hand to the top of the dizzy cap and bam a shock, so i did the same thing to the 2nd gen coil, and it shocked too so I know they work, so its like they are misfiring somehow? Where do I point the light at cause I have never done it before? and what should i look for? could'nt I just under the sfrew on the bottom of the dizzy and turn it till it fires right? The ignition is the only thing I dont know about so any help would be appreciated! THANKS

it sounds like a v8 when your driving right? not at idle?

the carby could be messed up also and trying to flood. that would do it.
ive had that problem before.

You can point the light at your face. The point is to see if the light is flashing when connected to the leading one cable. If so, your leading ignition is working.

If you wanna check the timing, point it at the main engine pulley. There are 2 marks there. Yellow for leading, red for trailing.

(keep going Jon, don't give up )

yeah the timing isnt too tough to get, just make sure that the main pulley is clean so that you can see the mark. Then time it correctly. (You gotta twist the distibutor after loosening the adjustment bolt at the bottom. The weird sound I dont know, but the loss of power you might atribute to the carburator. Make sure that everything is tuned and working properly on it, because it is a pretty old little carb.

No- there are marks or notches on the main pulley, below the alternator and water pump (the lowest pulley). The notches designate leading and trailing time marks. You may have to clean off the pulley a bit if it's grime covered to see them.
