12a simplification

Got bored today at the gas station and started removing things I don't need on my car. Subzero start tank, hot start assist, and hot air supply hose and valve on air box are all gone. I plan on getting rid of the shutter valve sometime soon. What else can I get rid of? I need the rats nest because of emmissions, and I want to keep A/C. Is there anything else thats useless I can get rid of? TIA

Well if emissions is a concern you better leave the shutter valve, its a intergral part of the system.

Dammit, there goes that idea. How much difference would it make removing it? Would it really pollute that much more?

If you start removing stuff (shutter valve, air valves) and leave your cat, it will most likely melt.

You really need a good grasp on the system and the components your pondering removing. The shutter valve works like this: upon deceleration, the shutter valve closes the flap on the intake runner to the rear rotor fully, and cuts off all air fuel mixture into rotor 2. Thus the spark plugs keep firing and allows it to completely burn the mixture much more completely... In my opinion the shutter valve is a motor killer. But its got to help a shitload with emissions... Dunno about emissions on throttle, but upon decel its gotta clean it up a lot.

I agree, you need to know what your're doing...

It actually floods rotor two with almost all air.

82 transam,

Take a look at this diagram.

hmmmm, i know how and what the shutter does, but i didn't think it was *that* important. Oh well, guess i'll just plug it till inspection time comes around.
