12a powuh!

ok... so I've got an sa22 with a ported 13B that doesn't run.. motor is OK but I've never got the damn thing running... a long time ago (like last ocotber!) I bought a parts car for it from a dealership but the tow was going to be expensive so I kinda just abandoned it there... (had a lot of personal **** going on at the time and couldn't deal with it anyways, and it was cheap...) Just another SA22, rusty, in rough shape... said the engine was siezed and it was sitting for 10+ years.

Went there today to pick it up, or at least resolve the situation (honestly, if it had been crushed or junked or whatever at this point I wouldn't have been upset with them).. went there, saw he had another (he had it before but I passed because of the price)... worked out a deal and got them towed both home.

the other one is an '83 GS.. hadn't run in a while but apparently the motor is good. got in, turned the key on.. oh good, battery isn't dead.. choke cable is though!.. pumped the gas 3-4 times and started cranking.. fires up right away! needs a brake line (to the pass. rear I think)( and a bit of rust work underneath.. ohhh and paint, its a really nice black but the roof clearcoat is peeling so it looks nasty Runs really well though.. idles perfect, etc. and its a NICE car!

tried to fire up the '79 SA22.. poured about 10oz of diesel down the carb. (always do for "bad" engines... ) put a battery in it, nothing.. no click, no whirr, nothing. pushed it into the garage. spun the alternator bolt clockwise with a ratchet, the motor turns.. HMM this is a good sign! jacked it up, took the wire from the ign switch off the starter and put a new wire on, toudched it to the + terminal and it spins! Pulled the plugs.. HMM, and it has compression! spun it for a bit to spit the diesel out.. put the plugs back in, attached the plugw ires, started cranking. The carb is fucked (rusted from sitting forever).. probably has no gas in it at this point anyways.. look for something flammable and find carb cleaner.. start cranking again and spray some down, and it FIRES UP! and runs evenly even! only ran it for about 20 seconds but still.. amazing that after all this time the engine is still OK.

in all of my (many many) dealings with rx7's I've yet to see a blown 12A... many blown 13b's.. but NEVER a blown up 12A!

maybe one day I'll find one....
just thought I'd share I guess...

wish I could say the same about a blown 12a =( these engines sure can't take overheating lol... Whatever live and learn, you should have heard what the beast sounded like with tons of coolant pouring into the combustion chamber. Anyways lesson is if you ever have a coolant leak of anysort for gods sake tow the car home! (I drove it for about 3 km's making sure to pour in extra coolant every km) anyways that didn't work so well.

But anyways blah blah blah lol. That is awesome you had such great luck firing them up after such a long time. Looks like someones got a few more projects to get started... Good luck and keep us posted!

Come to my place and you'll see a blown 12A. Still not sure why it blew, and it blew under the most unexpected conditions, during startup. Just went to start it one day and when the engine caught, I heard a very loud bang and the engine was running rough. I knew exactly what happened.

How much did you pay for both cars and where did you find them?
