12a partial teardown ?

So I think I have just mustered the ***** to pull my 12a pull the rear iron and take the washer out that I dropped down the intake. My questions is what are your thoughts vs. what the fsm is telling me? Anything to watch out for? I can just pull the back cover off to reach the rear housing right? Seems like a logical step, what is mandatory to replace if I split the irons? Thanks guys, I plan to do this later this week and will post pics.

Just take the header and spark plugs out. Rotate the engine SLOWLY by hand (or have someone else do it) and put a magnet on the exhaust sleeve. Hopefully it will suck the magnet in, saving you a tear down.

Also, when tearing down half a motor, go ahead and tear down the other half while it is out.

Oh I couldnt agree with Jeezus any more....pull the header...use one of those rods with a magnet on the end...you will get it out!

I agree. Just rotate the motor slowly, stopping immediately if you meet any sort of resistance. Work it around until you can extract it through the exhaust openings, or maybe even the spark plug opening.

Good luck...

once u loosen the tension bolts, u uncompress the seals. the chance is great that they'd never seal again.

your talking if i tear the motor down>? The only real reason I am worried is the motor was running than stopped and will NOT start, so I am hoping there is nothing detrimentally wrong but it sounds like it doesn't it? Kind of up setting that I have less than eight hours of seat time in my dd that I have had since Feb,. thanks guys

Lets put this another way:
To remove the Rear iron, you have to PULL (or at least loosen and pull out the bolts enough to spread the rear iron away from the rear rotor housing). This takes pressure off all the housing water seals. These can not be re-used, they will leak if you attempt to just re-tighten the bolts. So you will be pulling it all apart to replace at LEAST the water-jacket seals btw each section. It's kinda down hill from there...

if you dropped something in there, and the motor stopped, you should just pull it apart, the rotary engine actually is an excellent press tool.

it didnt sieze i assure you it just quit starting, I wish I had a compression tester because than I could see if it took a rotor with it, I hope not. seems like it lost all compression but it should still start on the front rotor right?

the damage would be to the apex seal, making it effect the compression. sometimes u can't get it to start on just one rotor.

only experience ive seen with this was nuts and bolts, but the nut came out about half height, ruined the rotor, broke the rotor housing. bolt (or something) acted like a broken apex seal, except i wasn't missing any apex seal parts, as they were all jammed in the bent rotor

with a washer? hopefully you get lucky...
