NY 12a exaust fumes

Can anyone tell me if there is any solution for the exaust fumes that my 12a produces ? I think that it may be running a bit rich but even if thats the case I want to know if someone knows another way to minimize the strong fume that these engines produce. Thanks in advance (just curious)

welcome to the wonderful world of the rotary engine. i'm sure you may be running a tad rich but there's really nothing that you can do to avoid the burning eyes and the wonderful rotary aroma. one of the many pleasures of rotary ownership.

They didn't smell bad from the factory. That's what the cat and rat's nest is for.

1. Check the seals around your tail lights. These have a reputation of going bad and sucking in fumes straight from the tail pipe.

2. Tune your carb. Start by reading this, straight from the Carb Master himself: http://sterlingmetalworks.com/tuning_the_nikki.htm

Good luck.

You can also change the gasket on the rear hatch glass. It is notorious for letting the exhaust stench into the car just like the tail light seals do. Other than that, just breathe deeply and enjoy the smells!

I would also suspect that there is something malfunctioning in the rat's nest and/or catalytic converter setup. Vacuum leak, malfunctioning components, or the like.
