12a Acting Funny

first i must say until two days ago, this 82's had'nt been started since 93. i cleaned the engine bay up(a possom made its nest in there for a little while, i think he mooved into the ford next door). i emptied out the fuel tank and also gave the carb a good cleaning. Now heres my problem, she starts up fine runs for baut a min, then just when i think shes all warmed up and baut ta hit idle...... she dies. i could use ur help guys, fuel pump and lines are ok, im hopping i dont hav'ta rebuild the carb but think its inevitable, any idea's?

BTW, she only has 53,000 miles on her and sounds healthy while running.

you should do a carb rebuild regardless. if everything else checks out then that's probably it. check to see fuel is squirting out when you hit the throttle.

Fuel filter, change it. If it is full of crap, drain the tank and flush it.

Yeah, fuel filter check should be done. Have you checked the plugs to see if they are fouling (maybe due to a rich idle)?
