12a --> 13b front cover swap

Exclamation 12a --> 13b front cover swap

i am currently taking off the front cover off of my 12a and i want to put it on my 86' 13b n/a engine.... but i have a couple questions........ when i do the swap 12a cover on 13b) which pulleys do i use??? do i use the 12a' pullleys or the 13b pulleys??
is the OMP from the 13b gonna bolt right up to the 12a' cover after the swap and function properly? i looked in the 1st gen archives but no answers.

one more question before i forget..... do i remove the oil pressure control valve spring and plunger from the 12a front cover and replace it with the 13b' oil pressure control valve spring and plunger?
i couldnt get my hands on a haynes manual for a 1st gen here at local book shops. are all of these things interchangeable??? if so which am i better of with im trying to install my 13b from my 2nd gen into my 83 gsl.

Use the 13B pulleys as the timing marks are different between the 2. You need to use the 12A mop with the 12A cover and block off 2 of the mop ports on the engine. I would keep the 2 on the housings operational. You would be better off using the SE front cover, then you can use the 4-port mop.

Leave the front oil pressure relief valve alone, It's there in case of overpressureing and has the same relief pressure. Ther rear valve is what controls oil pressure and they are the same also, iirc. You can also mod the ropr to up the oil pressure. There should be a thread in the archives with pics on how to do that.

I agree,itd be much better and easier to use a GSL-SE front cover.
Everything will be a direct swap that way,in regards to the oil metering system.

is it ok to block of the other two MOP ports?? what will wear out sooner if i dont use all four of them? dont use which MOP ports...... the inner two or the outer two by the CAS??? i have the haynes manual here in front of me..... and im looking at in the 86-91 year all models rx7 in chapter 2 section 10.29 illustration it has 1: Manifold oil nozzle and 2: Housing oil nozzle........ im guessing you are talking about number 2 is that correct??? do i just put a rubber cap in the Manifold oil nozzle?

why cant i use the 13b OMP on the 12a cover??

another question came to mind........ when i put the gsl-se oil pan do i still use the same 13b 2nd gen oil pick up tube/strainer???

You use the Se one.

On the OMP. It's because they do not bolt up the same.

if its an 86 why is it a gsl-se motor? isnt it just a stock 13 b, i have one too out of an 86 or 7 and i want to do this too, good info.

An 86/87 engine is not an SE engine, it's an FC S4 unit. You must use the SE oil pickup tube because the oil pans are different due to the difference in the steering systems. On the SEs, the main sump is forward, on the FCs, it's in the rear.
