ok guys so i know tj's opinion but i was just wondering what everyone else thought. weighing the pros and cons and i know that there are alot of diff scenarios(car, other mmods etc.) but what is the final tally

I know you know my opinion, but im gonna tell you why I feel the way I do.
I feel that the 12A is a better "beginners" engine. Although you need to do more tuning (the carb, but its better than tuning an aftermarke fuel comp if you ask me) which may be harder at first, you learn a lot of the basics you would need to know later. The 12A has many "easy" things that can be done to it, such as bolting on exhaust. I know this is just as easy for a 13B, but when it comes to intake, the 12A I think is gonna bea easier. If you stay FI on the 13B, your gonna need to buy a computer and what-not to do a lot of changes...Unless you go carb on the 13B, which once again, your gonna need to learn to tune. Basically, I think the 12A is a better start and would act as a "stepping stone" to move up to the world of FI once you grasp the basics of air/fuel delivery.

I personally like the interior of the 84/85 better because theres more you can do with the center console, such as Manntis's gauge holder, or the pocket and cupholder...Or even a custom double DIN stereo install...I also like the climate controls with the 84/85s with the computer crap thing...I like the 81-83 interior because its "clean" looking. Like if you install a CD player, you dont have a hole to fill type thing...I also like the round vents, and the gauge clusters kinda cooler. Although, I am fond of the 84/85 cluster (plus you can get indiglo gauges
), I think it all boils down to a matter of personal opinion and taste. Another thing I personally would want, is a GSL or GSL-SE so you can have the LSD rear end. The S, and GS's dont have this. Fear not though, you can still bolt one in if you find one in the junk yard somewhere though. The GSL-SE has a MUCH more common bolt pattern for finding wheels, so the GSL-SE's suspension is highly sought after because you can also swap this into a lower model car. The GSL-SE is a good car to start with if your comfortable with how FI works and what not if you plan to mod it, because you get the advantages of bigger breaks, more common bolt pattern, higer HP engine to start with, among other things. You can try searching for GSL-SE differences or something. You can get more info if you search.

umm, do you guys realise how many people take the EFI 13B's, with an adapter plate, and bolt the 12A type carb and manifold straight on?
I'm not exactly sure of the specs of the US 1st gen 13B, but cant be much different to the 2nd gen non turbo?

the 1st gen 13b engine here is a 6 port engine that produce about 135hp and 133 pound of torque. only came in 84-85 gslse package. the ports are a little smaller that the 86 and up n/a engine.
Yeah, I know there are carb setups for the 13B, its just that it seems that you would be wasting a lot of stuff to go backwards with technology...Or something...
I cant really verbalize what Im trying to say...I guess maybe its because I think that if you buy a car, and want to slowly work on it, going ***** out and reverting to carb on a 13B and getting rid of everything unnecessary would be more complicated than simply upgrading the FI system a little...But I think that a basic carb setup, like on a 12A, would be easier to learn to upgrade a little at a time rather than an FI system and learn about air/fuel delivery before going FI...Or some ****...Damn it, I dont know what Im trying to say...

Dont forget though that with adding a dellorto carb and header onto a 6 port engine you get 40hp(racing beatrs claim) and i dont really doubt this. It kinda shows that the stock stuff might be a little restrictive?

Dellorto upper intake manifold and 2-barrel carb is supposed to bump HP to almost 200 mated to the stock 6PI lower intake manifold - this is with RB exhaust header for 6PI ducting (vacuum assist '6' ports) and PP presilencers and PP muffler. That's a hell of an increase from 135hp stock, 13B EFI engine specs.
If I could find a Dellorto setup for 6PI, I'd buy it.
To get back to your original question, I would go 13B only because it's a larger engine displacement, and, as has been hashed out here time and time again, you're starting with more (HP, volume, power, torque), so you'll end up with more when done modding. HTH,
