back pressure is bad on a rotary. gut the cat, you'll thank yourself later. Also, get a K&N ... it's all about letting it breathe!!

Make sure you're running NGK spark plugs, and high octane gas runs much cleaner in a rotary.

Those are my few things to live by when owning a rotary.

So when you change your rear end, are you goin for lower gearing?

3.73?, 3.27?

Or taller gearing?

4.11?, 4.44?

I would like to go with some lower, gears, I like the prospect of top end room to run, I have a K&N filter on there, but the intake hose is stock, I was going to fab. on out of alluminum but it would have actually made the diameter of the hose smaller, being that the alluminum was thicker than the hose.

Spark plugs, I forget the name, i'll look later, but they have the sollid head, a ring with four slots. I think they are AC Delco, not sure, haven't looked in a few months.

I run 93 octaine, besides the K&N, she is pretty much stock, I was going to start my mods, with suspension, brakes, and drivetrain obviously. Get everything ready for the TT before hand, so when its in, i'm ready to go. Plus, cash flow could be a problem for a while, so I figure I would be partially satisfied with a Rx that handled extremely well, even I couldn't run with the big boys. Make the best of what you've got. Besides, I am more into road racing than drag, so perfomance comes before sheer power. After all, what good is a 1st gen, with 300 horses, on a road course, if you can't stop or turn. Horsepower doesn't always equal speed, or win races.

What type of clutchs' are you guys running, my 83" had a semi-bronze, that was nice, nothing like chirping third with a 12A thats stock, more or less. It was in the car when I bought it, don't know if it was overkill...

What size wheels are you guys on, 16, 17...and what tire size, right now I think I would do good with some 215/40, but I can only find them in a few brands.

Search about what octane gas to run, it's been discussed a few times. The outcome of it was- don't waste your money, rotarys like the lower octane.

What gears are you running right now? You should be able to go 120 mph or so in 4th ( @ ~7200 rpm), in fifth, 108-112 mph will be your max if the cars in good running condition. The 12A RX-7's just don't have the power to accelerate in 5th beyond that, that makes it a true overdrive.

Right now, just the stock GSL-SE rear end, it needs work, the car sat for about 4 yrs. In fourth gear it will only do 80 @ 7grand, and it's a 86"-87" 13b.

For comparison, my stock SA is going 80 miles an hour at 3500 rpm in fifth gear. That works out to 117 mph at 5000 rpm, not that I've ever taken it that fast. It's got the original motor with 160K on it, so I tend to baby it a bit. I've had it going about 95 in 4th once, but she still had some beans left. My friend's GT3 RX3 used to pull 165mph on the straights with a 4-speed.

Yea, thats my question..... is your speedo working? at 7k in fourth the car should be going 115+. Is it an automatic? Something here's amiss.....
