1/4 Mile run...

Ok i have an all stock 85 GSL with 176,000 miles on it. I took the rats nest off and smog pump. only thing done to the car is a muffler.... My fastest 1/4 time was a 17.2 with a **** R/T of .757 at 79.40mph is that pretty good for a stock GSL?? or is that just shitty?

I recently ran my '85 GS with the rats nest removed, full Racing Beat exhaust, and only 60k miles on engine. My best run was 16.783 at 80.72mph with an R/T of .779. I think with your car in it's condition that's good.

I just ran my 84 GSL SE with the following mods: custom made catback exhaust -- It felt like I lost power in my mid-range with the new exhaust, MSD Blaster2 coils, Jacobs 8mm wires, Amemiya aluminum flywheel, OS Giken twin plate clutch, Amemiya quickshift kit, BF Goodrich drag radials at 20 psi
R/T .23 ---> this took me a couple of passes to get used to the OS Giken twin clutch
60 ft time: 1.85 -->the Goodrich drag radials hook up nicely, but they don't last very long.
1/4 time: 15.9 at 86.3mph
Need a set of headers and a real rotary exhaust which I'll be ordering from Japan for about $450 made by Amemiya.
Need to upgrade ignition system with twin MSD 6AL

Reaction time (of the driver), in seconds, from when the light turns green until the car starts moving. I think between .400 - .500 is pretty good.

Here's some STOCK 1/4-mile times from the thread in General Automotive:

1979 Mazda RX-7 GS - 17.0
1983 Mazda RX-7 GS - 17.0
1985 Mazda RX-7 GSL - 17.4
1984 Mazda RX-7 GSL-SE - 15.9

How about a reaction time of .000. Seen a few of those at the local drags. If only I could do tat. My best R/T was .437. I hate not being able to hear the revs. Damn loud classic heaps and trucks.

Mr. John Force, who is suppose to be the best at leaving the line doesn't even get that. .040 is his. A .5 is great depending upon how the strips lights are set. Learn to let out the clutch when the third yellow lights up. That would be the one before green. There is such a short delay that by the time it turns green you will be off the pad. Of course to soon and you red light.

yes i still have the stock cats... lol i dont plan on having cats soon... Im gettin a new intake. new carb. new header... no cats... new muffler... and after a while put a turbo kit on it... and tub it out and put wider tires in the back... my best reaction time was a .2 and i ran a 18.0 with a hot clutch.. the clutch pedal was stickin to the floor lol.. so when i let off when i was revvin it at 4600 before the light turned green i let off and it went down to 500rpms cause the clutch was sooo damn hot... i need to get a street/strip clutch... anyone know how much it will cost for a brand new one? and what do you think my 1/4 time will be with all the stuff that i mentioned that i have orderd?

I run a 15.6 with my mods, and my car is tuned like ****. I expect to break into the 14's once my car is tuned right. Thats pretty wicked for a stock port 13b 6 port.
