1/4 mile question plz help

Where I live there is a strip where a lot of people will drag down, it is from one 40km/h sign to the next and it is a little less then a quarter mile. If my gsl was doing 110km/h before i put my full racing beat exhaust in what should it do now. It would be really nice to get some ppls feed back because i am really interested to know, because i went out and I only did 115km/h 5 km increase sucks for the price it costs, and the ratings they say, I also think my timing could be off a bit and that could be why but im not sure. Can you ppl tell me the before and after i should expect, THAT WOULD BE AWSOME! thanks

If you are only getting to a little over 60 mph in the 1/4 mile, your car has other issues. The car that became the widebody, with a Mikuni, headers and stock ports hit better than 60 in the 1/8th mile.

Take a stop watch with you next time and time your 0-100kph. You should be at 10 seconds or less.

Compression check, full tune up and if you know someone who has a wideband O2 gauge, check your afr's.

Compression will not change, afr is air/fuel ratio.

I agree with Trochid, your car must be way off tune to get that performance.

From what you say the modification is limited to a new header and exhaust system. I suggest this should give you some 20 extra HP. The result in performance will be limited, around .7 second quicker over a 1/4 mile. If you have not accurately measured the strip, go with Trochoid's suggestion of timing to 100kph with a good stop watch. Do you realize how short .7 of a second is?

The potential of the new header/exhaust system is not reached until you upgrade the carb. So that should be next upgrade step.

Check both leading and trailing and get them spot on.

however when i rev it up the yellow line for leading starts to get behind a bit, my car actually sparks to late when i rev it up, i totally thought it would have to be the opposite??

It can't. If neither the vacuum nor mechanical advance is working, then the timing would not change. There is no way that I know of for the timing to retard on a first gen. That would be done through an ecu/cas system which didn't come out until the 2nd gens.

so what your saying is that yellow line should not move from the little pointer with the timing light on the leading plug even when you rev it up, it should always be right on the pointer??? Cause it moves so maybe that could be an issue, it moves a whole inch

The mark should move towards the passenger side. The engine rotates clockwise, so with the advance, the mark appears to be to the left of the pin.

i just get confused when you say the mark appears to the left of the pin, which direction would u be looking at it because if you are seeing the engine turn clock wise that would mean you would be behind the engine which means the yellow line would be to the left which would be on the driver side

Looking at the engine from the front, it rotates clockwise, the mark should move counterclockwise as rpms increase.
