Question $70 oil cooler/hooking it up with current oil cooler

I have a 1985 RX7 with the air/water type oil cooler. I have been looking at some junk yards for the early 1st gen and 2nd Gen type oil cooler. The ones I have found which are in good shape go for around $70 dollars (that’s including the hoses, brackets and the thing the oil filter sits on) Is 70 dollars expensive for that? I was thinking about just buying a new one from Summit and instead of taking out the water/air type cooler, leaving it there and hooking up the new Air type oil cooler to run after the oil has passed through water/air type cooler? I’m I making any sense?? I have no experience with this so just tell me if I’m an idiot. Thanks

sounds like youve got a stingy junkyard if you cant find one cheaper than 70 then i would probably get a new one as well

$70 is not a bad price for the oil cooler. As long as it has some sort of warranty, like, if it leaks with in 30 days kind of a deal. You should get new lines for it. Since you are diging into you might as well. The SS lines from Mazdatrix are alot cheaper than the factory lines.

You can get a used one but I'd have it pressured tested and flushed out before use. And by all means buy some new lines.

I got an oil cooler from the junkyard with 30day exchange warranty for $20. No Hoses though. It came from an 87GLX so I'm not even sure if it will work hehe.

I have NO IDEA if some new 1985(GSL-SE) hoses will fit.(assuming I mount it in the stock 85 GSL-SE position)

I noticed the hoses were bigger than a 21mm or 22mm wrench like my 85 is supposed to be so I don't know what kind of adapter I may need.
