Talking $1700,alot of gas,and a trip to Jersey....

Whats up guys! Just have another story to tell of not enough money, enough time, enough gas, for a mazda rx-7.....
The story begins when a guy named Erick posts on the forum of an 87 rx7 for sale. I look at the post an its actually an 82 with an 87 13B motor. hes asking 3500 for the vehicle plus a trailer. So being the generous guy I am I give him a FREE bump for a smokin' deal!!!and ask him if he would like to sell just the rims alone plus my mint 4 spokes FT+$. he says maybe but he wants to sell all that he has b/c he now has other hobbies and interests. So I read the response and figured"thats cool, I was just speaking on something I wanted and did not need anyways. that was around 2 weeks ago. I ended up forgetting about the car like I do so many others that catch my eye. Either I dont have $, Never had enough space, and no time to drive from Orlando Fla. to New Jersey for a damn car!!!

FAST FORWARD TO THIS PAST SATURDAY

I look again b/c the owner bump the thread by leaving a message. so I read the last page and find out that hes bumped the price down a few times and now to 2 thousand dollars inc. the trailer!!!!!

NOW FOR THE CAR

Its an 82 base model w/ SCCA wide body kit along w/ SCCA wing it has 13x8 panasport rims w/ some other type of 13x10 wheels in rear all on good year slicks.the rear bumper is gone and fitted w/ an aftermarket filler plate that fits perfect and looks better anyways...LOL. the car has what I think is a 7 pt. cage( when I post pix you guys lemme know)it has full suspension coil overs w/ camber adj. in front.. fittapaldi racing wheel, reloc. batteryw/ kill switch, 2 racing seats one w/6 point LUKE harness A/F monitor, panhard rear suspension which is the rear end is "floating" and the bushing are gone for a solid,no body roll ride.if Im wrong lemme know. the car has some type of racing device that allows the 4 wheel disc brakes( 87 swapped rx-7) to be adjusted for front, rear or equal distribution.Crazy right!!! the glove box was turned into a shelf housing 2 msd boxes. The interior is pretty much gutted except for the dash stereo trim and trim down to shifter. the body was reinforce welded in a lot of areas and even moreso where the cage meeets. the ngine dept. is just as interesting....It started w/ a rebuilt 13B from an 87'w/ matching blue intermediates to match body color. he told me it was re built when he bought it and now has around 100 autocross miles on it. I didnt pull it off the trailer to drive but i did start and lemme tell you the engine sounds super solid and not a lick of oiil was to be found. I has a sidedraft delloreto carb. mounted to racing beat manifold, it has an OVERSIZED radiator and a 2 gen oil cooler,& home made block off plates cover where the emissions equip. used to be. it has some type of FPR and some type of oversized "accel" leading coil alongside a reg. "crane cam." coil. the car was his hobbie til he ran across another and no longer had the time or sapce or even interest. he told me straight up he is not a mazda enthusiest but he bought the car for the rotary's ability to do best at high RPM's( ).So I left on Monday night with $2100.00 prasying it was e nuf to cover the car and gas and left w/ my boy taking turns driving straight through there arriving at 7 on Tues. riging up my ball and hitch w/ duct tape(too small) and leaving at 10:30 @ night to drive straight through back to Orlando and arrivingyesterday at 7 in the morning...The trip was hell and by the time I got back I told my boy Jon that I didnt want to see his *** for a week(LOL j/k Jon . thanks) but anyways i bought the car being poor, behind on mortgage, and without a job waiting on my withdraw for my 401K plan for 1700 bucks with a really nice ride on trailer w/ custom extensions for the vehicles low ride height. tell me what cha think was it worth it???? I will always put my fam. first and will always provide though this time i might have gone a lil' over the edge...LOL.. so im praying on this 401K check to come as quick as these bills do and look forward to pulling it off the trailer once I catch up on the 5 hours I got of sleep over these last 4 daYS.-Erik Montalvo

Ima put some headlights on her(any ideasw/ the aftermarket coils and stuff the motors wont fit)and put some street tires on . Ive never road raced, or even really street raced but I would like to give it a try. My other mazdas Im kinda a show off but Ill get on it if i dont see any coppers.I looked on the SCCA website and it looks like fun.

What class was she prepared for? Find out the car's history, it may be significant. If you do mod it get some MSD coils those Accel are unreliable. Do some checking over of the systems. The brake adjuster is probably a bias valve which reduces the amount of pressure to the rear to avoid locking the rear brakes, nice find overall.

Go to the racecar section and post for info on the class it was made for if you dont know.

He told me F class but I will go to the race sec. for some more 411. thanks for heads up.you're right, that was the reason he gave me on the brake lever thing and I was wrong, it was to either divide pres. equal or more to front. not

Yeah that valve doesn't change the front at all just limits the brake fluid getting to the rear.

The better but way more expensive is a pedal box with two brake reservoirs and an adjustable bar, this adjusts both front and rear, but is expensive and probably not necessary.

I wouldn't do much until you know the history, it could be a piece of history.

Nice find...now let's see the front of that Rx7. The body kit has SCCA Pacifica written all over it (not literally).
