...all you think about day and night is the mind bending torture - and cosmic significance- of the mathematical equation:

...when you have spare parts piled up in every available space
...when you come back inside the house and it smells like 2 stroke from warming your 7 up and say, Ahh that's better
...when you have a big blue foam MAZDA sign in your garage
...when you wish you could buy back your old mans' RX7 because it was so mint
...when you know all Rx7 offsets off the top of your head
...when you love them so much you decide to make insane Carbon parts for them

I no longer own a 1st gen, but when I did:

I once broke the headlight switch in my dads dodge trying to pull out the "choke". (True story)

Cold weather start ups were warmer than hot due to all the jumping on the accelerator you had to do.

Wow. I read this whole thread before I even had a 1st gen.

2 days later... I'm the proud owner of a 1983 RX7 GSL!! It's still in the junkyard though, lol. I've been to visit it a few times. Hopefully it's coming home tomorrow!

Haha. I felt like I could relate to most of it though, I don't know why, I've never even driven an rx7 before.

... when you see another RX7 with a glass sunroof and immediately think it's "pimped" out.
... when you have to explain to everyone you meet why you aren't going to "throw a turbo on it"
... when you see a spot of rust somewhere on the car and immediately start freakin out.
... when you find humor in asking local auto parts stores for a couple of parts in succession with each attempt coming out a miserable failure and the poor customer service guy feels horrible for being no help at all.
... when you buy enough tools to be a part time mechanic purely because you own this car.
... when you've obtained an entirely new appreciation for rack & pinion steering.

when you de-power EVERYTHING. (windows, rear wiper, cruise control etc...)cause simplicity is bliss.

you stare at c-4 corvettes with squinty eyes cause you can see a strong ressemblense.

2nd gen owners dont aknowledge you

youve ever considered buying a sticker for the back bumper that says "NOT A Z CAR"

people break there neck turning around to see you open all 4-barrells cause it sounds "pissed off"

everytime you pop the hood to add oil you attract a curious crowd

you develop a "seven sense" and can smell and spot an rx7 in the area.

when in the junkyard you freak out cause you find several ebay money makers:

targa seven top
glass roof
louvers
door cups that ARENT cracked
BLACK interior
deck wing
center console with all the tabs on it (84-85 interior)

The neighbors run outside to see who is driving that darn dirt bike down the street again...

Your bolts fall out of your hood and it flies over your car w/o touching it while driving it down the highway (opps)

You spend all this time and effort and you still have a loud, smelly, cantankerous piece of junk that surely nobody would pay money for!
