damn i totally agree with both the wrench sizes and driving 100miles to a junk yard.

and on the junk yard theme.

you know you are a gen one owner when : you leave the house to go yard hunting for parts, drive all over hell and back just to find out they scrapped all of them last week, and you wanna cry, so as a last resort you stop in to you rold stand by yard and as your getting ready to leave the guy behind the counter says "hey did you check the new one we just got in?" and you about wet yourself knowing you are the first person to pick through it lol

First impressions from new owners?

dang, this was meant to be a new thread... aw well, never mind..

Mine: (not meant to be bad, just impressions)

Car seems to run dirty with lot of emmisions? But passes smog easily?
Loud exhaust tone, stock.
Very small cockpit, not very comfortable, seats so high I hit the roof.
Even with my 13B, I guess I expected a tiny bit more power. (169k)

For virgin Rx7 owners, what did you think during your 1rst week of driving?

When you call into work and tell them that your car broke down and they actually believe you. Then the next day when you go in they have a group sympathy card signed.

When you are standing at the corner with a sign that reads, "Need money to fix my RX-7", and people stop by and actually feel sorry for you.

When your car is picked by the movie industry to be the background soundtrack tape for the new drive by shooting movie.

You know you are a first gen owner when your first reaction when seeing traffic is to wind down the electric windows (with a bit of assistance by hand of course :P ) pop the roof hatch, pop the hood (lets loads of heat out like a raised bonnet, really works, hehe i use it often ) and fire up the heater, then sit and pray no hoses go.

Hehe hopefully this isnt just me....

When you spend over 5 hours going through 5 different Pick 'n' Pulls and combing over 1000 cars to find parts for your car... in the same day XD

My first week of RX-7 fun, was just that FUN. I punched it every chance I had, red lights, back street in a neighborhood straightaway... Now I don't nearly as much.

...when the city you live in fines you repeatedly for the "junk car" (my SE) that was stripped for it's valuable factory parts sitting in your driveway...

...when you'd rather buy a rebuilt 13b than put a down payment on a house of your own...

...when all your fellow coworkers have heard of every modification or performance part you've put on your car but have never actually seen the car itself...

...when you buy parts for the S5 TII engine in your '83 that you don't actually have yet...

...when the Pep Boys manager knows you by name and knows exactly what to look up when you enter. And he doesn't even have to tell you the part's not in stock, you know it isn't...

...when you wish every day you were driving your 7 instead of the beater DD you own that actually looks better than your 7-and it runs...

...when you get off work and park your beater outside of the Extended Stay America in Monroeville, PA to steal their wi-fi so you can check this site before you head home...

When you know the exact size of each nut and bolt because, one way or another, the same one has to come off to remove anything on that motor: 10mm, 12mm, 14mm.

Like my post said...
You gotta have a few, cause you need different ones for different bolts. "No, goddammit, not that 10mm, the 10mm to the left of the one under that other 10mm to the right."

When you don't have one at the moment, but look for parts and "how to" threads anyway!

...You have a 10mm T-handle wrench wedged between your seat and the console just incase the distributer gets a little nudge and needs adjusting.

You know you're a first gen owner when you buy an FC as your daily driver so you can pull the 12A out of your FB to rebuild it and miss driving the FB sooo much. I want to trade my FC for a nice SA or FB LOL
