You think if you could just spend more time with the FB you wouldn't need a girl to keep your free time occupied.

Yea, 300th post and a new page.

After three weeks working on my 84 GSL, fixing damage from a rear end collision and getting all my good parts installed, I don't mind that it's still going to take a few more days to get it right and all the bugs out. Pictures coming!

You know that you are a first gen owner when you consider a beat up, overprized, rusty RX7 with a blown motor a good buy, just so you can salvage it from the junkyard!

When you get angry at that stupid truck that is tailgating you. Then you realize that it is actually an MG.

even though you've see the car hundreds of times you still gaze at it when you pass in your daily driver (if it's not your 7).

When you actually know what it is and what it looks like: M6x1.0

When you spend time trying to figure out if a brass piano hinge from the hardware store could be used to fix the glove box door and/or the compartment lid hinges.

When you spend so much time talking to your dad about RX's and having him help work on yours, he ends up buying one too. And then you spend quality time with each other replacing the engine with a rebuilt from Atkins.

When your driveway looks like a flashback to an 80's Mazda dealership.

When you wife tells you she will go buy you the pickup you want, if you will just get rid of one or two of the rx's in the driveway. And you think about it for a minute, and say "oh **** it, I can live without a truck".

...when you compare every car you drive to that of your 7, damn dsm i hope it burns in hell

When you know the roads you've driven so well, because at one time or another your 7 has let you down and you've had to walk them.

When you smell a fuel leak and keep your eyes peeled for fire/smoke but don't stop until you get to your destination .. unless a fire starts..

When you have seriously tried to use the sound file from the G-force engineering web-page on your cell phone as a ring tone.

http://www.gforceengineering.net/

(if you haven't ever been there... crank up your PC's sound system, and click the link

you might be a first gen owner if:
... You buy a tri-link from G-force to eliminate your rear upper control arms because the chassis mounts have completely rusted off.

The one about the Atkins diet and kick *** apex seals was mine from the vintage forums. At the time I was on my own version of the atkins diet.. trying to drop some weight for race season.

I droppped 65pounds. So to re-phrase.
... You put yourself and your car on a diet to have a better power to weight ratio.

When you go to start up the 7 and the whole time you're turning the key you're saying "come on baby, please start, I love you, please start for me, please." And you kiss the steering wheel when it cranks.

YOu know your a 1 gen'er when

1: you bought more starters than it has speakers
2: you though it was a good idea to put a system in it and realized theres nothing you can do to hide 3 twelves, **** if i can break into it with no problem, anyone else could. Then after a week of worrying about having to buy a new rear glass you finally takem out
3: your alternators cant keep up with everything on at speed
4: 85mph is fine as long as you dont have to be in front to long with those dim headlights
5: When u give up all hope for a day and let ur girl drive it and then she tells you how many rx-7 she had wave at her
6: When your girlfriend and all her girlfriends have to tell you about all the sweet rx-7's they've seen in the past week "The yellow one was cool it had ...... and the red one had one of those triangle stickers on the back window...... the blue was cool too but it had those funny rims on it from from the 2nd gen you had ....." in reply you say "WTF u saw a gsl-se where, small like mine, the little one right, the first rx-7 right" and she looks at u like ur crazy.
7: When you make ur own fusible links
8: When you take a truck for a 1/4mi asswhopping and then get beat by a new malibu
9: When some says "hemi" you can relate to an old dead idea thats still a 'good engine design' in therory can you say "WANKEL????"

This is NOT a good idea, goto an auto parts store and just buy them before you get a short and have to watch your car burn to the ground.

-when it's 3:30 on a Sunday morning and you STILL have to shower/shave for work tomorrow but you STILL read all 22 flip'n pages of this thead and identified with at least 98% of them...

-when you spend ALL of the money saved for the new baby on a new motor for your OTHER baby which is slowly rusting out from underneath (you put "Tan and Rust" on the autocross I.D. forms) but you're too damn in love with it so you spend it anyway... (insert your ideas on the wife's reply here)

-when you own THREE 2.3 liter cars and can't help but think that that's some kind of cosmic coincidence and you know in your heart of heart's that the rotary car IS actually 2.3 liters no matter WHAT that tired old thread says... and you have the math to prove it....

-when your 20 yr old CARBURATED RX starts and runs better and gets better mileage than the fuel injected hyper-electronic Ranger you bought "to have something reliable and practical to drive when you need to work on the RX" and you consider it your "reliable everyday driver" even though the exhaust makes even the ricers run for cover...

-when you SERIOUSLY consider replacing the rotton running 2.3 Pinto engine in your Ranger with your SP carbed rotary until your horrified best friend GIVES you a built 300hp Turbo engine to put in the damn thing instead... and you STILL think the 160hp rotary would be more fun...

-when you find yourself wondering what you wife's Camry would be like if you replaced the 5SFE 4-banger with said carbed rotary and you find yourself actually measuring for fit... and then trying to calculate the gas mileage/perfomance trade-offs until you realize they won't pass a carbed car for inspection that year and how hard would it be to adapt a 2nd gen injection and actually start looking for parts... and all this seems like a perfectly reasonable idea...

-wondering if all of this makes you some kind of monstrous, anti-social maniac before you realize that, no; it just means you've finally found the web-site that you've been looking for all of your life and that everybody who reads this madness understands perfectly so you laugh manically and keep on rotaring.

-and it's all TRUE!!!

you know your a first gen owner when you consider the fusable link for the headlight motors a replacement for the one that gets power into the cars cabin.

thank god you can manually crank the headlights up

you know your a first gen owner when your right foot gets slow roasted all summer long.

I lose my car in parking lots so often. I no longer look for the 7, I look for "empty" spots between other cars

When you have had major parts of your car in your living area.

When you live in dorms and people don't think it's strange that you're carrying your hood to your room.

The guy that lives next to you comes and ask "is everything ok, smells like somethings on fire" more than a handful of times.

when u add 2 new holidays on ur caladar. The day u bought ur car and the u first started it.

when u celebrate ur car's birthday by getting **** drunk and driving it home eventually hitting the garage door beacuse u think it takes to long to open up.

when u think about ur 7 more than women.

when u try to explain the rotary engine in a physics class as a part of ur project and evryone laughs at the idea (true story)

when u find every excuse to take ur car out for a "last spin"

when ur scared of valet parking ur 7

when u think u can race a corvette and owned by ur teacher

when u get suspended from school for being on the forums cause ur teacher thought u were watching **** from all the naked avatars.

when u would drool over a set of rims that actually fit ur 7 and looking good (4x110mm)

when u go to auto zone and ask for a carburator for an 86' GSL-SE just to get a good laugh
(and then go outside and prove them wrong)

when u install cutom cup holders but don't let anyone drink inside ur car
