it has 188,000 miles but I can tell it was very well taken care of. The engine has strong compression. The front rotor is about 110, the rear is about 105. The plug wires and distributor cap looks brand new. All the metal is really shiny. I ordered new plugs and a rotor button. The oil looks brand new. The tires have 100% tread. I know I need to change the oil anyway and the tires might have a flat spot in them from sitting, but the point is the car was very well maintained. I can't wait till advance has my tie rods so I can get it on the road and see how she does.
I will probably keep it for a little while but while on the subject, do I hear 2 dollars and a bj?

No plans for a restoration right now. I'm in too deep with my other GSL-SE to try and restore two nearly identical cars at once. If I keep it I will keep it stock and just drive it. I might use it to keep my other GSL-SE and my RX8 out of the rain. Basically i'm not looking to put any more money in her than I have too. My main focus is my white SE with black interior. I have to finish the interior then get a paint job. That is pretty much it.

Time for an update
I just installed the new tie rods today. I got it lined up pretty close by eye balling it. I will try and get a professional alignment soon.
I have to say I am very happy with the way it drives. This is the best driving RX7 I have owned so far. Not the fastest since it is all stock, but it drives very nice. It doesn't make any noises, rattles or squeaks. There are no vibrations although I haven't taken it over 65. The wind doesn't come in through the doors. Acceleration is smooth all the way through the RPM range. The transmission is very smooth. It doesn't seem to have any problems with the synchronizers when up or downshifting. The idle is perfectly smooth at around 900 RPM's. It idles down to about 700 when the A/C is on. I don't think that is supposed to happen. I'm not too sure though. The A/C definitely needs to be charged but it blows cool.
The most surprising thing is all the electronics work. The power windows roll up and down perfectly. The lights flip up and down perfectly. Even the cruise control works. So far the only thing that I have found that doesn't work is the rear wiper. It was completely rusted underneath the cover so I took it out. I want to take the wiper off my other SE so I might just put it on this one.
This would be a perfect car if the body looked better. There is a little rust in a dented fender and some other places but I think it is all surface rust. The interior isn't perfect but it isn't bad either.
A lot of you have asked me about my plans for the car. I think I'm going to just keep this car stock for now. It runs great how it is. I would like to save it for a rainy day literally. If I use this car when it rains then I can keep my RX8 and my other RX7 out of the rain. I might sell it though, if someone makes me an offer I can't refuse.

Well, I need to make a correction. A little bit of wind does come in through the driver's side door but it isn't that bad. On a good note though, the A/C blows colder after it runs for a little while. i don't know if it can keep up with the Louisiana summer but we will see.

I definitely want this car to go to a good home. I made a huge mistake when I sold my first RX-7 several years ago. It was an '84 GS, silver with maroon interior. I put a new paint job on it and the interior was in perfect condition. I saw it last time I went home on leave. It was dented and rusted all over. The interior looked like it was used as an ash tray. That was my first car when I was 16 so there was a lot of sentimental value. I wish I never sold it. I don't have any sentimental attachments to this car but it is so nice I would hate to see it get ruined.
By the way, while the car was getting aligned yesterday I looked underneath. It has a brand new Mazda drive shaft. The sticker is still on and it is very clean. The owner just called me to tell me a new gas tank was installed before the car was parked. It was parked with a full tank so I don't think it is rusted at all. The title is currently in another country but as soon as I get it I think I will list it in the for sale section. I'll keep everyone posted.

I repeat. I hate you...........
No sreiously. I found an '84 GSL-SE locally that I'm trying to get. It will probably cost me $300, but not too bad for a 8 year stored barn find. The PO was getting ready to paint it when he apparently got locked up for trying to knock over a bank. In the meen time, the property was sold to a friend of mine. He calls me and tells me about the car because he knows I have one. The cool part is, he doesn't know what it is. I'm not telling.............

That sounds great. This girl I got my car from had no idea what she was doing. People are like, I will give you $500 for your car but they have no idea what the GSL-SE is. These cars don't just go for nothing.

So I am driving through post housing on Fort Polk, LA and take a wrong turn and there to my surprise is an '85 GSL-SE. Of course, like any other rx7 owner, I get out of my car and take a closer look to investigate. It is then that I notice there is a sticker on the car saying the MP's are going to tow it because it has been reported abandoned by the neighbors. After about a week of asking around I finally found the owner. She said the car had been sitting for about a year because something was wrong the the suspension.
I tell the young lady that I am interested in the car and noticed it was about to be towed. She explained that she called the MP's because she didn't abandon the car. I asked her if she wanted to sell it. She seemed surprised that I was interested in an old rx7. Then she told me the most shocking news of all. If you want it you can have it. That was yesterday. Today I showed up with a tow dolly and she wrote me a bill of sale. Awesome.
Turns out the car just had a broken tie rod and as a result just sat there for over a year. After I got it home i put a new battery in it and it started right up. Oh, it smoked a lot. I'm sure my neighbors loved that. They just thought my running rx7 smoked a lot. He he. Anyway, after a trip to advance auto, I have new tie rods ordered. Hopefully there isn't anything else wrong with the car. I can't believed I got a nearly running rx7 for free, much less a GSL-SE. I'm going to load some pictures but I really don't know how to make them big. I can try it if someone shows me how.

Nice, you need to go give that girl some cash for being stupid!
Or you could donate this car to someone who misses his gsl-se that he was building up and sold it....
good find! And my old gsl-se looks to be coming along well. The black interior looks good with those new seats.

Well, I don't have the car anymore. I sold it to a long time friend 1stgennutt. He is enjoying the car now. I loved the car but I don't need so many cars, besides I already have one GSL-SE. It is in a good home though. That is the most important thing. Too many people around me here were like, "Hey man, I'll buy that car from you and put a 350 in it. Then it will be a fast car." I had to sell it to someone who respected the car. Now I can focus my attention on my other GSL-SE and the '85 chevy truck I just got for free.
