A pic of my (almost) installed DFLDIS

I was having some ignition problems... so I figured it was time to upgrade. Built my own DFLDIS using 2 GM ignitors and a relay stuffed into an old MSD box, and 2 MSD Blaster 2 coils.

I just need to re-arrange the coils a little... the rearward one is right on the sterring box, which is preventing me from bolting the other strut bolt through. I just got tired of working on it for the day (my g/f was nagging) so I buttoned it up and went home.

I also need to get the wires down to the right lengths and whatnot. I was just glad to get the car running!

You should relocate the battery to the passenger storage bin and put the ignition setup in it's place. That would help clean up the engine bay considerably. Post some pics when you get it all finished.

Storage bin? It's an '80! I do plan to relocate the battery later, but I'll be moving it all the way back on the passenger side, as far as I can. All in due time... like, once I get my new seats and after I strip the interior.

As for making a difference driving it, I'll never know. I was having ignition problems which I figured was an ignitor going bad (which is why I did the DFLDIS), but I was wrong- the magnetic pickups in the disty where what was wrong (see my thread). However, even with the bad magnetic pickups, the car actually idled with the DFLDIS in, whereas it wouldn't stay running with the stock ignition.

Unfortunately, the dismal slowdown at my place of employment has stretched my budget to breaking point... so it may be a while before I can buy those magnetic pickups. I dropped the last of my spendable cash on the stuff for the DFLDIS.
