being in chicago i guess most of the 7's you find will be rusted, but not for 1600. by far. it is an SE so that means more cash but i think thats a bit much.

listed are better cars for the cash i think anyway

i dunno about the dollars but here is what i see from the pics...

the engine looks unmolested, which is good, people do some really strange things to these cars. actually there is some cable and bracket thing by the hood latch, WTF is that?

it looks like it was dealer serviced, its got the OEM belts on it, which haven't been available for 10 years (the dealer sells a gates belt now). the wiring harness looks like its on the wrong side of the air intake hose, so the air cleaner/air flow meter was off for some reason.

the rest of the bay looks untouched, except the battery and spark plug wires. again this is good, but since the battery is new, maybe the car was sitting.

interior; looks very nice. the red fades quickly... needs a little TLC and some dye, but its all there...

exterior, this is the bummer... obviously the left front has been hit, and even the new fender is bent. the paint looks like it might be original otherwise which is good, out west repaint usually means poorly fixed accident damage...

the rust is kind of a bummer though, it looks fairly bad (in in CA, bare metal doesn't rust here), you should pull the bins behind the seats and check it for rust.

I bought mine for a bit over $2000, mine was in better exterior condition, but it sure didn't come with an extra set of tires. Either way that car will be a good bit of work if you want it for a daily driver, especially if you intend to fix up the body of the car.

If the engine really is good and the rest of the mechanics ok, it's worth it for the parts.

If the rust can be arrested for a few years, a few repairs and a macco or home made paint job could give you one really nice daily driver SE for the next few years.

Which would be a steal for $1600.

PS, those extra tires and rims are useless for an SE, they're 13" rims, SE uses 14".

I am very happy to see all the work people have done to help me out!
I may pursue that 7 in madison, however, I will take a look at this one.

I am very impressed with the rx7 community, it has always been my dream to own one, and FD is out of my price range, and well, not too big of a FC fan, so ty very much for all the feedback, and keep it coming! I will be sure to let everyone know when do finally obtain my first rx7!!

thanks again to all

Yeah, I would definitely look at the few that Rotor Venom posted. It's nice to at least start with a solid RX-7, and the extra cost of some of those could easily pay off in time saved.

The seller says hes had the car for 10 years and has not driven it much, does that give me any comforbility towards the OEM belt?

He also says he just had the oil changed, and has records of oil changes from previous owners.
Thanks,

I'm with phoenix on the price range. The rust will take some money and time to fix.
If she starts over I'd put the cash down.
But like people have posted above there are better conditioned cars for the same price range.

for what it's worth while that first car is the SE I would say no way due to the rust (or low ball him citing all the body repair needed) if your willing to be creative and spend differently finding a car in the SW and having it shipped may be worth it. Being from back East and living out here .... if I were to move back thats probably how I'd buy cars due to the condition ... but ask around with the locals I woudl bet someone knows of a gem tucked away somewhere

As Ray said, there is $1600 worth of parts, but you need to ask your self how much of a project you want. To me, there are way better condition cars out there than this one. Of course they will cost more too. Normally, its cheaper in the long run to pony over more up front than to buy a project and nickle and dime your way past that more expensive car.

From what this ad says and the pictures, I'd guess that this car has several issue's you have to work through. Depending on what you want the car to ultimately be, you could easily drop an additional 2-5 thousand getting it there. Which is just about what you'd pay for a more decent car with less troubles to begin with.
