Yea the wing looks ridiculously large from the rear.

The tires are Hoosier 245/580-15 front and rear.

The wheels are Epsilon 15x8 front and 15x10 rear. Not sure on the offset.

It will probably look something like this when its done.

I was thinkin some modest flares with a 15x8.25, 215 front 225 rear, or 225 front 245 rear.

I haven't had a speedo yet! There's an electrical connection at the tranny? Are you sure it didn't just pull out there? Maybe it's a different picture, cause I'm trying to configure an automatic.... Congrats on your little one coming! Perhaps a go-cart after a tricycle...

It's not an electrical connection...it's a mechanical one. A cable inside a sheath, like bicycle brakes. Since it's constantly spinning, it gets weak with age and eventually breaks inside the sheath. Mine was fine before the tranny swap, but it was probably on the verge of going if it broke so readily just catching on my friend's shirt.

No biggie...I've got one on order.

been a while since i've been here, so more of an update for me. recently had the clutch slave go out on me, so replaced it and the master to be safe. old battery from 08 ended up dying on me, so had to get a new one. just registered it for jccs. looking at doing the interior, going to get a black carpet kit from black dragon to replace the nasty brown cut pile i have in my car. i'm thinking the black carpet would actually look good with the rest of the interior being brown, since brown will be near-impossible to find. also, i want to get the slip seat cover kit from racing beat, wanted to see if anyone had any experience with them. also, i'm at a bit of a loss which one to get. 80 LS's had lowbacks, but the only ones that i see that would work on mine are the ones for an 84-85 5 letter that came with lowback leather seats. the picture that they uses looks like the same seat as mine, might just have to go down there on the weekend or something and see what they say. need to take it to a bodyshop to have them take care of the rust issues in the sunroof area. starting to bubble on the roof right by the hinges. need a new door, driver's side is starting to rot out in the bottom, but i don't want to do that until i can afford a paint job on it. needs shocks too, badly.

seems like i fix one thing, and more crap just keeps coming up.

Checked out the gsl-se that FM alerted me to. However it was tues, and I am a late poster. Some very nice little goodies are to be had on that car, I hope it doesnt go to the crusher too soon. I know I could use more than I was able to get.

That's the beauty of loving an old car... unless YOU'VE maintained it through the years... POs are the culprits. I am longing for the concept of MAINTAINING my go-mobile. I couldn't afford one in good condition. I KNOW I'm gonna pay more dues.

there is a saying I personally love ..... "built not bought" .... while finding a cherry and throwing a handsome amount of $ at it is cool .... there is something about bringing something back I feel is cooler

Went to the Japanese Nostalgic Car meet at Bob's Big Boy in Downey last night. One of only two first-gens there, but a lot of pretty old J-tin, going back to a very nicely maintained Fairlady 1600 roadster. Sadly too dark for my pocket cam to get any decent pix, but I suspect that some of the more pro-equipped photogs that were there will post up to their site eventually.

My car got a lot of new admirers, but she went home with the guy what brung her, as any real lady would.

Still waiting for my new LCA - can't wait to drive her with the front all proper again, seeing the huge difference just crudely banging everything back into place made.

I'm convinced the current bushing was taken out by a gargantuan pothole at some point.

Built, Not Bought

3 words that really do mean a lot in the car scene. Something that says it wasn't a low-mileage, showroom kept, humidity controlled storaged car its whole life - it was something that was taken out and used like a car. Those cars are amazing, I love how crisp everything looks on them and they have a time capsule effect on me. But like you say, there's just something about looking at someone's car and thinking, "Wow, that must have been a lot of work but I bet they're happy with it in the end."

I'm hopefully headed home here to find out what's up with the Turbo FB. Hopefully it's just a blown fuse and I can find it and get it running. If not...well, we will see.

This was my weekend to remove the rats nest. Dirty hands, a little blood, a few curse words, some sweat... I was ready, and after weeks of preparation, and anticipation I tore into it. Following the tutorial right to the part labled INTERMISSION, I had removed the Air Pump and installed the lawnmover belt.

Then I had to STOP! F! This does NOT match the illustration!




The next thing in the way has NO bolts to remove!



STANDSTILL! I plugged the big fat hoses that entered and exited the Air Pump, fearing I would probably have to just put it back on. I did NOT cry though it did occur to me. Perhaps just removing the air pump has cured my smoke display? OR perhaps some vacuum foible just disable my auto tranny... I took a time-out to muster up the courage to try a test drive.

MIRACLE upon miracle I'm good! GREAT even! I added some Sea Foam... smoked that through. Decided that I really SHOULD adjust the timing in park (not drive as the manual prescribes) and adjust only idle and carb in drive.

Smooth IS! She starts EAGERLY. Runs SMOKE FREE. Shifts nicely & feels RELIABLE!

So instead of rats nest gone... all I got is... NO SMOKE (truly the main goal)!!!!!!! So what if there's a bunch of jumble hanging on??? I am so pleased. I plan to figure out how to get my phone camera to make a short video.

Now I have a bunch of cover plates to return or trade off or something... .
and a perfectly good air pump I never want to see again!

Life is good. Now I can concentrate on little things!

cut the cold air induction pipes and fitted them up.

I also replaced the headlight lifter rods. wow ridiculously easy, i'm embarrassed i put it off that long.

This CAI mounts a cone filter in front of the radiator, where the AC condenser lives. I had to remove that, which i'm not entirely keen on, but will see if i can find a smaller condenser down the road.

Very nice, ioTus! My AC checked out years ago, apparently. My friend pulled it out while I was off having my flywheel resurfaced. Given that I'm in a very "A/C-optional" climate, I'm totally fine with it. 35 lbs lost in the front is welcome.

Not much action for me after doing the transmissions swap. I got some washers to use for spacers to put on the alternator on my 13B. Figured out where TDC for the front rotor was and put on the front pulley in prep for installing my S4 CAS. It doesn't slide in as easily as I thought it would, so I'm going to tread lightly and check in with others that have installed a crank angle sensor. Should I need to tap it with a mallet to get it seated home? It sure doesn't want to go down with hand pressure.

A good day for this rotary fan..

This weekend, I wrapped up some repair and touchups that Ive been longing to finish since an incident back in December...ive carried an odd sensation in my stomach ever since that night, and Im happy to say that as of yesterday, it has passed

Overall, I am very happy to have had the opportunity to practice automotive body and paint work as a result of the incident.

Saturday, I finished the final sanding of my primer, and shot my base and clear coats.

Sunday, I rinsed off the car and drove it to work for the afternoon.



Last night during dinner, I registered my work in progress for the 2013 Japanese Classic Car Show in Long Beach. Cant wait to see some of you there, and check out all the great cars!

and finally, this morning, I put a fresh dual pinstripe all the way around my car.





Hoping to accomplish a slew of other things before September 28. Getting Excited!

Unpacked my new RB complete exhaust that was delivered yesterday. Can't wait to start taking off the old system. Decided against the street port as I doubt I will ever port the engine so still need to locally find the short piece that wasn't included though as I don't have the equipment to fab my own.

Well, that's a band clamp. In your picture, there should be a fastener of some sort, if not a bolt, on the right side. That will release and the thing will open up via the hinge on the left. Not sure what sort of fastener is supposed to be on there. That tube was missing from my '79 long before I got it. It looks like there should be a stud pointing down, with a nut on the bottom.

'Course, if everything is running OK as is, it's your choice whether to mess with it or not.
