Thanks! If I can get my wife to hold the camera again, I will try to document my paint job process.

Yes, very nice video. And I've always been partial to whale tails on first-gens.

Nice job on the install. The next Kevin Tetz. I wouldn't mold it wing to the body. You'll be fighting cracks in the bondo.

lol, you guys are too kind!

KCRepu, I was actually thinking about that today... so if I put bondo around the edges it will end up cracking? What if I use some thin fiberglass material with it? Kind of like drywall tape?

I guess the bondo thing isn't completely necessary but the edge of the wing doesn't fit as tight to the body as I would like along those two front sections.

Tomorrow I will hopefully get some time for the DA sanding...

that's the wing i had on my first rx7 years ago. some people may think its too big, i think its awesome. i've been looking for a used one for my current rx7 for the longest time.

i agree...don't try and "smooth" its out. i personally think it looks fine stock

what i did about the screws, is cut the heads off, and used a little bondo to smooth that area out. it held for the 3 years i drove the car, summer and winter.

Looks similar (almost the same) to the whaletail my car has on it. It looks like the one that blackdragon auto still has listed for sale.

When you paint your car, please make another video like this showing how you did everything it would be greatly appreciated!

I installed a similar wing on a friends car years ago and came up with an idea for the screws in the forward tips. Fill the tip of the wing with epoxy or other filling/bonding agent, then countersink the screw holes into the epoxy. Your screw heads will be below the surface, and easily smoothable.

That video was awesome!

I need to hire you to make some more if I ever get my tutorial site done. Could you imagine?

How to's; Time your car, change your brakes, replace oil cooler lines, tune your carb, replace intake o rings, things like that. So awesome.

Spoiler looks good, too! I have two of those now. One just sitting on my shelf haha.

Thanks all, I am documenting the prep process now. Hopefully next week I can get the next installment in.

Chris, let me know. Perhaps we could travel to different member's garages for different projects. And of course we need to do special event episodes to highlight the great RX7 community! I think after this paint project I will do a vid on rebuilding the Nikki.

Thanks Chino, it's good to hear yours has not cracked.

rx71king, how long ago did you do the install? Have you seen any cracking? That does look really good smoothed out.

Did you use any screws under the rear of the wing? Mine has rivets on both leading arms and in
the trunk glass area where your fingers go. The back of the wing had what looked like a
fiberglass board that you put a few screws into so the back end doesn't lift up when you are
stopped at a light (ask me how I know).

Best pic of the whaletail I have
