Here's the axle- My dad got the bearing/seal/collar through world pak, a big import parts distributor. He just had his friend who works there look it up, etc, & it was all a fit without a hitch.

One thing I noticed today on an ebay car- it was an 82 GSL, but the storage bin lids were solid vinyl, without any carpet on them. Mine have carpet, however they don't have the locks like my 85 S had. What ultimately distuingueses between year & bin lid?

well, 81-82 had the solid lid with no carpet. i BELIEVE 83 added just the carpet. 84-85 added locks and lights as well as carpet to the storage bins

Ahh ok gotcha. Now- on the 80 SA's, were the bins availible at all?

That axles *looks* like the small axle (which is what all the parts listings say it should be) I don't believe the big axles had quite the "shoulder" just under the splines although its hard to tell without seeing them side by side...

nope, the 5mph bumpers added a big brace where the bins would go.

None of my 83's have lights in the bins. Interesting to know about the carpet piece on the lid door, didn't know that was a 83 thing....

Cool, I'd say that confirms it lol. It's just one of those rumors floating around the net that 83's started getting the bigger axles, but I kinda doubted it. thanks for helping to clarify.

well in the USA 83 is small axle, but in japan the 12A Turbo was introduced with the 'GSL-SE' suspension, so it would have the big axles.
