Stock 12a exhaust system
Hey I’ve just successfully rebuilt my first 12a and I’m looking to blow a bit more cash.
im not looking for anything crazy but the stock exhaust is rough and I’d like to replace it with something better sounding than oem. My budget is 700 give or take a bit and I’m curious to if anyone knows of any setups around that price. If anything the thermal reactor should be the first to go as it was a bit of a pain to deal with in the first place.
any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If your area doesn't require emissions testing then definitely get the RB Street Port full exhaust (as suggested above). I started with the RB single exhaust because it was a little cheaper (+- 900 vs 1100 at that time) and regretted not getting the better one. My current build has the Street Port (long primary) system. You could also just buy one of their headers and have a local muffler shop build you something from there back.
RB is the only company I know of that builds exhaust kits for the early RX-7's. Pacesetter makes a cheaper, painted header but it's thinner metal and will likely burn through. The rotary exhaust is much hotter than on a piston motor and burns through cheap exhaust tubing. Yeah so, for good and affordable I'd probably talk to a local shop about building a header-back system for you.

Pacesetter is a false economy; they always burn through and it's a big hole right in the elbow of the tightest bend. When it burns through, it sounds nasty and is downright unsafe with fuel systems directly above it. Racing Beat is the only worthwhile alternative, and I ran a Pacesetter back in college because it was all I could afford at the time. I've learned better since,

In my personal experience with exhaust systems for modern Subarus and 70's-80's SBCs... RB's exhaust build quality is low for the price. By modern standards anywhere. But none of my RB system has failed or leaked... not the ugly welds or poor chroming. They are structurally sound (in my experience). Just not "pretty" like more mass-produced systems, so...
Function over finish.
