Starter wiring

Trying to reconnect my starter motor for the first time in years. How do you tell which post is power and which is ground. Also, there is a small spade connector. What does that connect to?

Herb

Try This Herb.
Not sure it answers all your Qs, but a start- (no pun intended...)
AND - your (-)neg battery cable runs from the TX bolt, forward to the dr. inner fender, grounds there THEN continues on to the Battery (-) Post. The OE cable has a fitting on the line for the bolt-mount at the fender.
An after-market cable may not. Both + & - cables are anchored with a bracket under the oil filter, BTW....

just a couple of quick questions if you're still on the site, what is the TX bolt meaning, also where exactly is the bracket mounted for the wiring, is it connected by the bell housing bolts under the oil filter? and the negative side of the starter doesn't have anything connected to it from the car right?

I'm not sure what TX means, but it's a long bolt that also holds the bracket. It's threaded through the trans to hold the bracket.

TX stands for Transmission. I think this acronym is frequently used by the U.S. Military and Government.
