If I have a chance at lunch, I'll drag the photo over to Racing Beat, see what they might remember about it. My office is just a rock-throw from theirs.

Oh, and speaking of unobtanium denied; I broke down and ordered a brand-new vinyl shift **** from the local Mazda dealer, for which they cheerfully took cash up front... and now a week later they are telling me that it is "on back-order with no projected release date; do i want my money back?" /crai

Glen, maybe if we all order a couple the incredible unexpected demand will convince MAZDA to reopen a production line. (A man can dream!?)

Pretty neat that you can walk to Racing Beat.

Me thinks you'd better request your money back.

i've waited for months for backordered parts fromthe mzda dealer. they came in just fine. shoot me the part number and i'll call my parts guy at mazda and see what he thinks about that part on backorder. he's a top notch guy and really smart with parts and ordering.

also, if you got some info from RB that would be awesome! i really dont know anything about the gauge or its associated parts. heck i couldnt even tell you what they retailed for our how much boost the thing would adjsut to. no clue what the switch in it is for.

dave; that RB boost controller is great! ran one on a car a few years ago, set it to 10psi, and you get 10psi NOW. i remember it from the RB catalog, but it would be like late 80's early 90's

DD; the dealership, if they want to wait on hold forever, CAN call mazdausa and mazdausa can check stock in japan. if they have it in japan delivery time depends on how the dealership ordered it. if its just a normal stock order, it'll go by boat and take the 6-8 weeks. they can order faster, and it'll come by air, but it costs more as mazda charges shipping.

Dave, your new toy is a "TURBO II Boost Control Module," made by Racing Beat between appx. 1987 and 1991. The switch is not original.

Jim at RB was nice enough to copy the two pages that discussed it out of a vintage RB catalog, but he said unfortunately a previous employee had tossed the only remining copies of the install instructions when the product was discontinued. Shortly after which, the employee was discontinued, apparently.

Here are scans of the photocopies:

Oh, and the shift **** part number I ordered was 193117520A00 *****,CHANGE; I figured I'd give them until Thursday to at least figure out when it might become available, before I go get my money back.

I could have ordered it online, but might have had the same results... and didn't feel like paying $13 s&h for a $20 part. I was hoping to have it for Sevenstock, and figured six weeks should have been enough lead time. Silly me.

I have a 1997 Racing Beat Catalog on my shelf along with the 3/97 price list. As of that time, the "Turbo Boost Control Module" Part No. 23000 was still showing as available and the price was $252.

That was the other option... but local-dealer price for the LS **** was nearly $100, and I just couldn't bring myself to go there when there are more pressing places on the car I could spend $100... and besides, then I'd want a leather wheel, too, and down that path lies destruction.

DD all I can tell you is I paid $65 for mine some 6 yrs ago (so, todays value? Close to $100?? -yike!) and I have NOT regretted it since. If you consider that the shift and the Steering wheel are the two primary contact points between your skin and your SA - well, it is a suh-weeeet sensation my boy! (assuming you don't kiss yer paint job too often....).

And the St Wheels retailed for $950 when avai, so makes the **** almost cheep...?
Indulge Glen-!

Dear Stu;

Today is my birthday; when can I expect delivery?

Thanks!

Well, I went at lunchtime today and got my money back... the dealer is saying that Mazda US is fully winchester for both *****, even the leather one; I'd talked him down to a signif. discount due to my troubles, before we discovered it was "not to be had."

Bummer.

Pursuing other options.

After agonizing for all of 20 seconds, I ordered a **** online from Dave's source, which (so far, anyway) hasn't kicked the order back.

Since I was going to get pranged for the same amount for shipping, either way, I ponied up for the dead cow version.

Happy Birthday to me!

Edit: PS sorry about the triple post... would have just editted, but 15-min timer said "nuh-huh!"

well, Glen, you may want to call them in the morning to verify the order. i waited a week and didnt hear anything from the company. called them and they told me that there were none in stock and had my order cancelled. they did however give me the number to a mazda dealer in oregon who had the last maroon shift **** in the country. i called the dealer and bought the ****..which inspired this thread. so please call thembefore you get led wrong like i did. it worked out for me and i hope it works out for you. my dealer i thought could still get the plastic ****. i'll call them in the morning and report back with you. if they can and you want it i can order it at my cost and send it to you and you would pay the exact same that i paid for the **** and shipping. i will provide you with all receipts. keep me posted withwhat you decide.

Thanks for the word-up, Dave... definitely check on the vinyl **** for me, and let me know if there's any hope of getting one. I'll call mazda-parts tomorrow and see if I can get confirmation. So far, order status just says "processing."
