TX Son Needs Help With 83 Bridgeport in Houston

My son has a 1983 RX7 with a Bridgeport engine with less than 20K on the motor. It won't run. He can get it to idle, but nothing else. He has a fuel/air meter and it's all over the place. His Holley carb was spewing fuel out the sides and his step dad purchased an Edelbrock carb for it even though my son wanted a Weber. Now the car is just sitting and my son is upset.

Is there anyone in Houston that may be able to help him? He is a student and doesn't have a lot of money but we don't want only handouts! We can pay to get it going. He called to the rotary shop in Dallas and they told him it would be a "few thousand dollars" just test it. That seems high.

He's almost to the point of giving up. He said today he may just sell it and get something else. I'd hate that---he loves this car.

Any help appreciated.

Hate to say it, but he really got in over his head on this. A bridgeport is a pretty exotic rotary setup for a first timer to deal with. I hope its not his DD.

You should post in the South region on this forum and see if anyone can help.

Yep, I tried to tell him not to get this. It is a race car, not a driving car. But it was his money and he did it. So now I'm trying to keep him from losing all his money.

Yeah "few thousand dollars" is BS. You guys need to get the carburetor tuned. Someone that tunes carbs should charge around $200 to tune it.
