seatbelt will not retract

so how can I fix it w/out buying a new one?

or can I get a recommendation on where to buy?

surely one here more mechanically apt that I (and I'm a damn good mechanic) has solved this problem.

since there were 18 views and not one response, I'm gonna pull out the credit card and spring for a new seatbelt.

hard to fix sometimes, you have to take it apart and hope it works when you put it together. Probably better off buying a used one. I do have seat-belts in brown or burgundy

patience on the responses good sir. this forum is nowhere near as active as it once was.

agreeing with Rotaryhaven on this.. the bar locks against the internal gear not allowing the belt to retract. it can be a sticky mechanism or a sign that the belt itself is failing. its hit or miss freeing them up but i would just buy a good used part from a member here on the forum.

god gave only one set of cervical discs, so i'm going to blow the $80 on a new seatbelt.

I did take both seatbelt retraction mechanisms apart, and they worked intermittently.

visions of a driver and passenger that rear ended another car. The windshield was cracked in two places. The car had a little front end damage. Two people were strapped to a board with cervical collars. This was in Manhattan Beach Cali. Lots of speed bumps, couldn't go faster than 25 mph.

thanks anyway everyone

I see your point on the seatbelts. But there are plenty of people that have good seatbelts around for sale. Again I see your point in an extent as far as safety. But if that's the case completely, millions of people who buy used cars worldwide would have to replace seatbelts.

Belts and brakes; two things never to skimp on when they are malfunctioning.

Tires would be next in line, but those two are pretty much not negotiable in my book. They are the two items most likely to save your life in an emergency, or kill you if they fail.

Since we as a group are pragmatic and skilled enough to be able to maintain a 3 decade old sports car so much so we have great wheels without blowing +$500/month that the rest of the populace trades in after 3 years so they can continue to blow +$500/month........I ask this off topic question (except we do carry smart phones, tablets and pods in our cars)

What smart phone, pod , or tablet should I get? I want to have a phone, and be able to trade stocks and commodities while on the road.

This a slightly relevant question, because a mobile device will free me from the desktop and I will have more to drive and work on my RX-7.

Good time to go to a 4 or 5 point.

while 4 and5 point is great to have in case of an accident, there are much worse dangers/threats

To see what I'm talking about, go to youtube and search "thug fight car attackr", and watch the one put up by "laz foot". remember to put the "r" at the end of attack.

cops are Judge Dredd/Dirty Harry when it comes to writing traffic tickets, and they turn into Barney Fife if you are attacked.
