SA Engine bay updates.

Recently I have done a lot of upgrades to the 12a, but I haven't taken any pictures yet.

First of all I installed a Racing Beat carb hat and foam filter. Very nice if I do say so myself. Changed the sound up a bit, seems to have smoothed out the top end somewhat. Most of all it looks awesome! Simplifies the bay a lot. I did some cleaning and changed up my crank case vent setup. I just have a large vacuum line coming out of the filler neck base to the carb hat with a small fuel filter placed inline. Works great so far.

I also upgraded to electronic ignition. I made my own wiring harness out of brand new 12g wire and proper clip connectors. New NGK BR8EQ spark plugs. New NGK factory replacement plug wires. New battery terminals.

I have a set of new 205-50-15 tires and 15x7 Rota RB wheels coming. they are the Panasport / Watanabe replicas.

I got my header fixed up too. It needed some welding done and a flange welded on. Put on a new upper radiator hose. Changed the oil. I also slapped a new Exedy clutch in her. Needless to say it runs like a totally different car now. Coming sometime soon will be a Racing Beat mini pre-silencer followed someday by Racing Beat springs, and a short shifter would be nice too...

Man that looks good, but I agree get rid of that fuel filter. The one before the pump is enough.

The fuel filter is not for the fuel line. It's for my crank case vent setup and it is staying exactly where it is at. I don't want chunks of lung mustard and what not getting sucked into the air intake.

It is truck bed coating, but it was there when I got the car. I just touched it up with a new coat. I don't mind it. My FC has it too. Keeps it looking cleaner longer.

Got the new wheels and tires on the car though! Rota RB 15x7 +20 in gunmetal with a polished lip. (Panasport replicas). With some 205-50-15 rubber. They look very nice. Old school design, yet modern looking with the lip and shiny finish. Just needs some RB springs! I need a new oil filler cap too. Might as well invest in a rotor shaped one, right?

LOL. I got bored on easter sunday so what else was there to do other than take the fan off and clean it?? Took a wire brush to the tough stuff and metal. Dish soap and a rag. Followed by 1200 grit wet sanding. Then I lubed it up a little bit.

Laugh if you will... but it's the little things that make or break a cars appearance.

It's moisture from the crank case vent. It gets sucked into the engine while the car is running.

Engine bay looks great. You did some hard work there.

But.....

That's exaclty what the crankcase ventilation system is for. It's to suck all the moisture out of the oil pan and run it through the combustion chambers to get rid of it. That's why most people hook the crankcase line up to the carb or manifold. There's no debris thats going to get sucked into the engine, and if there is you have bigger problems than keeping lung mustard out of the intake system.

I know what it's for. I have it hooked up "right". The filter is just a safe guard. It keeps anything that's not supposed to be sucked into the engine out and allows the moisture through.
