RX7 1st Gen for Concours

Hi,
I am the Chair of the Ault Park Concours d' Elegance in Cincinnati. I also recruit for the Collector Asian Class. We have had the Asian cars in the show for the past two years and last year had our first RX7 - 2nd gen. I would like to get a concours example of a 1st gen model to show this year. The show is the weekend of June 6-8th in Cincinnati and will be our 31st Annual Show for the benefit of the Arthritis Foundation.
If anyone has a lead on an example that would fit in the Concours, contact me or go through the website for nomination information and forms. www.ohioconcours.com.
I am also looking for a Cosmos.
Thanks,
Fred Jones

Try contacting some of the people in this thread. I'm assuming that you are looking for an extremely clean, stock 1st generation Rx-7. While mine doesn't fit the bill necessarily, there are a few guys around here that would. But, I would definitely recommend that you check out the cars here and try to make contact with any that interest you.

how perfect must the cars be? i have an 84 GSL in sunbeam silver with 55K original miles.its a beautiful car, but not perfect, as there is a small chip in the paint on the rear bumper, the shift boot has faded, and ther is a very small tear in the sun baked rear carpet. other than that the car is in really nice shape. no rust anywhere and the paint is like new. everything is clean on this car. the external engine wear appears correct for the mileage.

Yes, my SA is quite stock, but the changes I've made are very obvious...tires/wheels, rear window louvers, taillight insert, and upper windshield tint band. Under the hood it is almost exactly as it was from the factory other than the electronic distributor upgrade (although I could switch back to points easily). It even has all the original heater hoses. The interior is completely stock and original other than the stereo.

Let me try to explain what I am looking for as a car to nominate for the Concours.
The RX7 is starting to be recognized as an important classic car to the general motor world and to the classic car world in particular. The Concours are just starting to recognize that the Asian cars have produced some classics and each year the list expands.
The judging is very exacting and demanding. The car is going to be judged against the 240Zs, NSXs, WRXs, S600s, 2000GTs, Cosmos, etc. that have been meticulously restored or maintained to where it would be, in some cases, in better condition than when it rolled off the factory production line. Last year we had a 240Z that was awarded a Gold Medallion by the ZCCA later that year for excellence. It didn't take the BOC. That was won by an award winning Honda S-600.
There has been a lot of discussion about modifications that are allowed and generally it is what would have come from the factory as the standard. We have had some cars that have had period correct mods, like wheels/etc., but generally it is safer to have it stock or with factory modifications/options.
The judges are usually experts in the field about the cars they are judging and what they are looking for depends on what side of the bed they got out of that morning. As the CAS cars get more exposure, the judging is going to be more demanding.
Personally, I have been certified as a Datsun Chief jJudge and do muscle car judging for other concours. Sometimes it is a beauty contest and other times it is a technically correct contest. All involve the love of motor cars, though.
Sometimes, we get an "outsider" winner. Last year, in the muscle car class, the winner was a Motion Baldwin Corvette. It was a significant car in the muscle car era, similar to the "Royal Oak" Pontiacs.
I hope this helps clarify as to what I am looking for as a nomination. Feel free to contact me for any more information.
