MI Places to buy a Hood.

Anyone know where i might be able to find a new 79 rx7 hood? the one currently that i have for my car has most all of the underbracing rusted out. If i cant find one for a decent price im just gonna try and fix the one i have.

Thanks for the help.

the new mazda hoods came with the 79 style hod prop, you might want to check if they still have one. they went NLA in the mid-90's but got brought back for a while.

they were not expensive new, $250ish?

The junk yard might be a much less expensive and much more available option, assuming that all the RX-7 hoods in Michigan haven't already rusted out. In Georgia spare hoods are all over the place, I gave away one of my two backups a few weeks ago.

Some of the OGTA crew have found even more interesting things to do with their spare hoods:

You should be able to get a used hood (without the custom artistic paint job) from the junk yard or a forum member for about $50-$100 if you can avoid shipping.

Or, just consider the rust a weight reduction...

that's a pretty cool use of spare hoods!

the only gotcha with a used hood is that the right side hood prop hood is a bit rare.

Go to e-bay and try Apex auto parts. He has several cars that he is parting out, and is a great vendor to work with. He has had everything that I have needed for my 82 restoration.

Will a hood from an '82 fit on a SA (other than the hood prop issue)?

If so, come over for this event https://www.rx7club.com//showthread.php?t=905660 and you can have my spare (white) hood for $50.00 We'll even help you install it while you're here.

you are right if you get one from the dealer or the repop ones if you can find them all had the prop rod on the RH side. I was refering to Apex Auto not having one right now.
