Picked up 84 GS today

Hi all.

I have lurked on this forum for a while reading some of the most excellent posts and info.

I just pickuped a 1984 GS Gen 1 and drove it from Houston home to Central tx.

For introductions let's go back in time a bit...

I think bout 1981 I remember being a 12 year old kid and started to want to drive / own a car. Learned on a VW bug stick in empty woolco parking lot at that age.

Well this guy comes burning out around the corner, showing off, in a silver RX7 and after he parked the ladies loved this guys.. err car. I wanted one from that moment on.

In 1988 I purchased a reconditioned 82 GSL. Will post a pic soon I have a photo somewhere. You could smell something burnt but it ran like a bat out of hell. I smoked bigger muscle cars every now and then off the line at a green light.

100,000 miles, parties at Port Aransas with 3 people in the hatch (yea 6 legs out the back window all the way down 200 miles) and many adventures I sold out to a more comfortable Honda accord with A/C.

Fast forward 20 years. I am bored as heck with my Ford Exploder.. reliable and comfortable but boring.. you fall asleep it's too comfy.

So I found this 84 and it's got 52,000 original carfax certified, one owner miles.

$1500 total after ttl.
It didn't want to start but once it was warmed up and I put some fresh gas it runs well. The 5 speed shifts smoother than my old one. No 3rd gear grind! OMG

No smoke? I was waiting for the fuel filter or apex to blow on the way home lol but it ran like a champ.

What's wrong so far. Oil is nasty.. that dealer didn't spend a penny on it (he got it auction for 500 bones). Holes in the body from rust. Undercarriage not bad corrosion wise. Engine clean. Air filter is dirty. So I am gonna drain every fluid and change all filters.

Plan to fixup is to start with electric and mechanical then interior and finally body. I want to paint it with House of Kolor Kameleon or Hot Rod Flatz.

Anyway this forum is a great resource from what I have seen so far..

Vash,

Thanks.. btw the horn button is sticking out because some tried to pry it off I guess.

Oh and a side note of interest. Some idiot scrached out the original sticker VIN. But the body frame and plate VIN's all match. Just devalues it for the door sticker. You can clearly see a key swipe and just damage at the vin location.

Who would do something that stupid? The auctioneer or some idiot that didn't have the cash to take it home?
