New RX-7!

So it's been a few crazy days, but I finally made it back home with my new 7. It's a 1985 GS, silver with a grey interior. I towed it from the Illinois/Iowa border. 90,500 miles . One small rust bubble under the passenger's door, but none underneath . I have to do a compression test because the PO said that it has a blown apex seal on the rear rotor. I also need to put my RB exhaust on it to get rid of the fart cannon that is on there now. I'll post up some pictures of it tomorrow when it's light out. Below is a link to the for sale ad with some pictures.

You don't need to get a compression test to see if you blew an apex.

i don't know if it's blown. PO said that he only owned it for 2 months, and the people that he bought it from had it stored, so it could just be stuck seals. I'm going to seafoam it, MMO it, and just drive it to see if I can get the compression back.

i'm keeping my eyes out for when there are meets/races. I need to do some engine work and diagnostics tomorrow to see if it's actually blown. are there any auto-x's this weekend?

i'm going to be working on the engine trying to figure out if it's a stuck seal or if there was a chunk of carbon that took out an apex seal.

i'm going to need two new tail lights, because I powerwashed her tonight and I knocked the lens on the passenger side loose. I'm going to put on my RB suspension, exhaust, and my enkei meshies to complete the package.

finally

so with the crazyness of the end of the semester kicking in, I am finally getting around to re-sizing my high-rez pictures so I can upload them to the forum (plus using the school's 5meg up rate for transfers )

Here is the new 7 in front of my parent's house BEFORE a good wash at the local u-spray.

The car is running alright, won't idle. I havn't had any time to work on it because it's sitting in storage at my Grandpa's place and I'm 550 miles away. I remember looking at the engine and noticing that it had Autolite plugs in it . I'm going to swap those autolites for the NGK's sitting in my black '82. Over winter break I'm going to be putting my RB SP system, RB Suspension, and Enkei wheels on her and doing a full tuneup. Hopefully this, combined with seafoam and the right plugs will clean up my idle. I really hope that there hasn't been any snow around my grandpa's place so I can take it out for a spin, but if there's salt on the road, then there won't be any driving 'til this summer.

have you checked for vaccume leaks? check the large vaccume hose that runs from the anti afterburn valve to the intake manifold. are you sure that you have adequate spark and are getting adequate fuel? check the front sight glass and not the amount of gas in there. replace the fuel filter, plugs, wires, cap, rotor. inspect the ignitors and the air filter.

I havn't had any time to check for any vacuum leaks yet, but that was a thought and my dad expressed concern about as well. I am planning on doing that over winter break. Hopefully I can figure out what is going on over break. It'll be a compression check, search for vacuum leaks, and full tuneup, along with suspension and exhaust.

oh, and btw, this isn't my first 7, but it's my first 7 that's still got the nikki and stock (besides fart cannon) exhaust. If i'm not getting adequate spark after new cap/rotor and putting my good wires off of my black car on my silver car, i'll put my MSD coils on my silver FB.
