Is my local Mazda dealership smoking weed?
I placed an order with Mazdatrix last Tuesday for some parts including the rear main oil seal. I need the seal so I can put the engine back in and wanted to do it last weekend. But Mazdatrix is waiting for a bushing before they will ship the order. They expect the part today or tomorrow but with shipping times I don't know if it will be here by next weekend.
Thinking I could just buy the rear main seal from the local Mazda dealership and at least get the engine done this week I called the Bedford dealership and the parts guy said,"Mazda no longer makes that part."
So is that true or is this guy getting high on his lunch breaks? Needless to say I am now at the mercy of the good folks at Mazdatrix.

For best results, actually go into the dealer and make them go through the parts screens, they tend not to blow you off when you're sitting right in front of them.
I'm a parts guy at a Toyota dealer, been doing this for 12 years now. Enthusiast like me are rare in the parts world. Most guys treat car parts just the same as washer machine parts, no interest. Me they hide in the back. The less capable are put in the front.
18-20 years ago I was looking for a part for a SA at my local dealer. He had to resort to the microfiche. Once the part number was located and the order placed he handed me the microfiche and told me he didn't need it anymore, "No one ever comes in here looking for stuff that old, so you take it."
Moral of the story, be glad we have the internet now. Always find your part number and THEN go visit the dealer. If you have the parts numbers they can even bring the stuff in from Japan. Best part is usually no shipping.

I always call Ray at Malloy if I need parts from mazda he knows the part #'s in his head for a lot of them and can usually tell you if he has it in stock or not, pretty amazing if you ever dealt with a moron before.
Thanks for the links bwaits! The guys at Mazdatrix said they would ship out the partial order if the bushing don't arrive tonight, so that is good. But I will be sure to research the part numbers next time I call the dealer!
No problem.
You can actually get stuff for the Rx2, Rx3 and REPUs if you know the part numbers.
That is how I pickup all new rubber for my REPU project a year or so. They had everything but the driver side door rubber.

You can also go to onlinemazdaparts.com and run the part number yourself. On rare occasions you'll find a part that is listed as available when it's not, only because they occasionally get dealer returns from their own stock. Once the national qty available has sat at zero for a while, they'll change it to NLA. While you're there, place the order online. You can call your local parts guy a dipshit and tell him you're buying parts elsewhere for less money and better service. Hell, your local guys is going to have to order it anyway.

I was told (in 1999-ish) that they don't want to deal with parts for cars older than 1986 because then they have to dig out a microfiche reader.
I deal with Mentor Mazda or Worldpac. If Worldpac doesn't show a listing, I go to Mazdatrix's site and fix the part number, then call up Mazda of Mentor and tell them my name, the shop I'm from, and that I accept responsibility if the part is wrong.
Incidentally, when I was putting my GSL-SE engine together in 2007-ish, they could get me the intake to engine gasket but the upper to lower gasket was nowhere in the US. Mazdatrix has 'em, though.

I didn't know there was a Mazda in Mentor. That would be better as it is only 10 minutes from me. Mazdatrix got me all the parts yesterday and I replaced the rear main seal and have the engine back in. Today I get to put everything else together and either try to start it tonight or first thing in the morning. Fingers crossed.
