My first FB....

Though not my first Rotary. I've had an NA '88 RX-7, and a TII '88 RX-7, and I'm a newer owner of the RX-8. Every day, the rotary is engulfing my life, and I'm becoming obsessed...*Not a bad thing, right guys? *

But the son of the local Rotary repair shop came up to me with this beauty and wanted to do a trade on my needing some small TLC TII. We did a trade, and here we are. I've never owned one of these babies, so there is a bit of learning...but not much. I'm in love with this car, because it's been ported *Not 100% sure what port, since it idles well, I'd say street.* with every bit of luxury gone. Well, enough talk, lets see some pictures.

Is this sticker on every GSL-SE? It was rather cool, since it was Rotor shaped and all, so I included it's picture...

And I'm REALLY not used to being able to see, and even touch, the rotor housings/transmission. Quite an awesome feeling when I want to put a turbo kit on her.

Yellow exterior with burgundy dash and spray can white radio plate & black door panels, mixed-match spark plug wires and no belly pan hmmmm no bueno. If you look at the rear bumper, there is a black stain...that is very bad sign that front and rear engine rotor return springs are in bad shape. So, you got screwed and I recommend parting it out immediately. Dont walk away, but run as fast as you can

*edit* Ahh, I see, the burn spot on the back bumper. The engine is relatively new *5k on the rebuild*. I'd have to assume that's not roast marks, but fuel...this thing runs pig rich. Upon reving up to 5k and dropping down, you can see the fuel kind of smoke out a bit. Gotta get something to tune it.

Was he just throwing me for a loop I may not be 100% on "How to rebuild rotary/problems with them" I'm still trying. Only been into the Rotary scene for a couple years.

I'll agree, yellow isn't the best color, but I'm trying to keep it as 100% when I got it as possible. I plan on dropping a Turbo in it, as it has the low comp rotors in it, with 3mm apex seals from Atkins. *This is all from what he said, no proof....but I don't see why he'd lie.*

*This part is drunken rambles, so please...be nice :P*
Now, here is the fun part. He said it was ported *which I mentioned earlier* but I've not asked him which port. It idles OK after warmup, so I'd assume a Street. Well, the thing makes power all the way up the band. When he took me for a ride, it looked like he was shifting at 8.5k. I read around, found that's no good for the E-shaft. Fine. I'll shift at 7.5k. He has the OMP shooting 100% blast into the rotor housing *has that little lever stuck at full strength* so when I rev it up, gas + oil smoke comes out. I don't see any issues with putting TOO MUCH oil into the housing, just never heard of it done. Most people just Premix instead... But either way, it's a GREAT car, feels awesome, and is fast as hell *from my perspective....I've only driven a TII for the fastest speed...*

Holy ****, rereading what I said, I'm really rambling. Anyway, there's an explanation of the car. It's running pig rich, I don't know enough about the engine to change anything, and it's burning a lot of oil at high RPMs. Car has a bumpy ride, but I like that, no power steering or AC as you see....this car is a straight fast RX7 with no luxuries, and that's what I like.

I Plan on getting a standalone *if that's what it's called...I've never tuned before...so I'll be reading the forum for lots of help...* so hopefully, this car will be 100% within a year...

watch your oil levels the oil is coming out of the motor alot faster the way he has it set up and low oil levels in a rotary is not good or diconect the omp and premix its safer

Maybe there's a push fan in front of the rad??? That's the only thing I can think of.

pretty spiffy lookin, id black out the dash and finsh with the black/white look on the door panels and the rest of the interior. repaint the while car white and put new body moldings and emblems back on, i like the rims. and get a stock black steering wheel. oh and dress up the engine bay with more blue stuff. top it off with white neons inside and out. but other than that i like it, btw i like the bungee cord holding the battery.

I second all of that except the bloody neons. Neons?!?! Really? Of course to each his own, but this classic beauty would be put to shame with neons. Awesome car man, ignore Wacky. If he could he would have all of us give him our old RX's for nothing. He's just a greedy, greedy car guy. Get the details figured out, especially that bungee cord battery tiedown, then enjoy the hell out of her. One way to check if it actually was ported, is to take off the exhaust manifold and see if the inside of the port is rough or smooth. If it's smooth it has been ported. I have no idea how to check the type of porting though. Good luck bro.

Thanks Orion, and I agree with the ideas of Neons. If I was doing a show car, that would work, but I just want something fast and nimble

i admit that neons on the outside are a bit much, but at least small white ones one the inside would still be tight. but for fast and nimble then at least you picked the right year and model. i loved my 84 gs. i kinda want a nice FC TII, but i think id rather have an 84 gsl-se more. i love those light little bastards.

MMM Some inner lights, *Neon or a few LCDs..* would be nifty. I'd rather get the couple problems sorted out *passanger side window gets off track, and driver side door won't let me unlock with a key....looks like someone screw drivered it in hopes of breaking in ala Gone in 60 seconds..*

Either way, I'm still in love with the car. Gotta get it legal and post some vids of the fun I will have

I haven't quite figured out how I'm going to resolve the "falling off track" thing, because it only does it when the window is 95% down. After it, it falls off. I've never quite fixed anything like this before, so it will take some playing.

I really can't wait to be able to afford to legalize the car, so I can go out and have some fun.

i just took the panel off of the door, and when it fell off track id roll it up a little, then pull the window back onto the track and pull it up as im rolling it up. a shop said my mount regulator was bent or something like that. about 50 bucks for the part and about 250 for the labor. i said na im good just taking the panel off. when i went to car shows and stuff id just have the windows down if it was gonna be nice and put the panel back on.
