Nah. I've done the same thing on some of my other forums.

Everyone's been great here. Looking forward to being around awhile. And if anyone has a mint snorkel for sale, I'm interested!

Hi guys. I'm the buyer of this car.

Yes, I paid a premium. But I did my homework and I examined the car carefully.

I read this thread with interest and picked up some good info. I'm a pretty serious car guy with about a dozen cars - everything from muscle cars to exotics - but I haven't been into RX7's since they first came out. I'm looking forward to learning from the experts on these forums.

BTW... my favorite comment in this thread (compliments of Jhereg)

"Looking at the winning bidder's history... Totally a scam bidder"

Umm, no.
Ouch Called out to the line!

How interested would you be in A brand new NOS part from mazda........? (you'd be surprised what the yokosuka mazda dealer has found when I badger them enough)

You want it on a scale of 1 to 10? Or will begging suffice?

You really need to go to the lounge section and say that! . Just joking. i will stop by on the way home tonight and harass the parts manager for a while and see what we can get. honestly sometimes you get lucky with them over here.

Do you have any pics of the car since you bought it?

The car is currently in my shop. I'm addressing a ton of very minor issues in order to make the car 100%. I'll take some photos as I go along.

Congrats to the new owner and welcome to the forum.

Goes to show everyone has their price. The average guy would spend much more restoring a car to this shape, and many of us have spent much more over the years modifying ours.

I am sure you'll get years of pleasure.

Congrats-
you got the car you wanted - and expected - at pennies compared to anything approaching a new sports car. If you got what you want then you paid the right price. And the Good News is if you keep it looking like it seems, (or better) then the Market will catch up to YOU.

win-win.

I see there's a big 'ol hot plate of crow waiting for me here. My apologies. When looking at the bids on the item, there are several bidders who have bid on nothing but that item, 100% of their bids with that seller. There are also bidders with a crazy high percentage of bids with that seller only. I was just going by what Ebay was showing. While you obviously were not a scam bidder, I believe that price was inflated badly. Glad to see a proud new Rx7 owner. Congrats and welcome to the club!

No apologies necessary.

As for the bids, they're legit. I spoke with the #2 and #3 bidders, both of whom really wanted the car and both of whom had seen it prior to bidding. One of them offered me $500 to walk away from my winning bid and let him have the car - an offer I politely declined. If you saw the car in person, I think you'd understand. It's pretty special.

In the end, I didn't care what I paid. I've been looking for too long and I really wanted the car. I was going to have it at any price.

Hi guys. I'm the buyer of this car.

Yes, I paid a premium. But I did my homework and I examined the car carefully. I have to tell you, this car is exceptional. I've been looking for a very clean example for over a year and I have seen more than a dozen cars in that period - some with lower miles. None of them came close to this car. The car is as clean underneath as it is on top. The paint is original - with the exception of one door - and is without so much as a single blemish. Many of these so-called "time capsules" disappoint in person. This car exceeds your expectations.

The interior is a 9.5 out of 10. The original owner put seat covers on the car the day he bought it and never drove without them. The carpet, dash, trim - it's all nearly perfect.

Under the hood is the same. The cleanest 30-yr old engine that I have ever seen.

The car is a one-owner car and fully documented from day one.

To answer a couple questions... the seats are original and have not been recovered. I have several photos of the car the day it was picked up and the seats match. I also have a receipt for a seam repair from the dealer on the original seat dated 1984 and you can see the repaired seam if you look very closely.

The rockers and the fog lights were dealer installed - I have the receipt.

I read this thread with interest and picked up some good info. I'm a pretty serious car guy with about a dozen cars - everything from muscle cars to exotics - but I haven't been into RX7's since they first came out. I'm looking forward to learning from the experts on these forums.

Don't feel bad. I paid 6300 for my '83 w/ 60K on it a little over a year ago. While 5K would have been a better price for my the 6300 was worth it, since it was *exactly* the car I was looking for, color, options, etc.. 100% original, unmolested. I was looking for a couple years and felt comfortable with that price. As long as you're comfortable with the price, that's all that really matters.

I think with the documentation and all the neat original accessories, 7500 is not a terrible price. There is definitely a small market out there for low mileage, very well maintained cars, as you and I are proof of.

Congrats on a beauty!

Agreed! And the original cars are the smartest investment over the long haul.
