Purchased FC Coils
Ordered the trailing and leading coils from ebay yesterday, UPS dropped them off today. I can't believe how BIG the trailing coils are! Are they stronger?

I do thank you for the link though!
My main point was that the trailing coils are huge compared to the leading and I kinda figured it would be the other way around. I bought them to do the direct fire upgrade and was planning on doing quite a bit of searching on that subject.

I'm not sure you can use the 2G trailing without a computer involved. Something
has to switch between the 2 coils on each trailing fire for each rotor. You might want
to investigate that more fully.
Unless your going to use a standalone then ignore me.

Thank you for the input!! The only reason that I have the trailing coil setup is because it came as a set, trailing and leading, for a really good price. Hopefully the leading coil will last for a while!

The reason the trailing coil is so large is that it is actually 2 coils in one. The igniter is set up so that it switches between each coil so every trailing plug fires in sequence. You need to have a standalone or the right circuit to sequence the igniter and fire them at the right time. I don't think they are any stronger than the standard pot type coil.
If you really want to see how Megasquirt handles the trailing ignition, go to the 3rd post in this link: https://www.rx7club.com/megasquirt-forum-153/official-rx7-megasquirt-faq-ms1-check-here-before-you-ask-your-question-658411/.
But be careful, you can get into a technical sandpit in a hurry here.

Thank you RXDad! I am not going to use the trailing coils though, just the leading. I have been lurking around the forum for a little bit now, there really is a lot of very useful information here. Enough to make your head hurt!! I wish there was something like this back when I had my first 7 in 1998!! Once again, thank you both for your useful input. If I ever go 13b with fuel injection I will definitely use Megesquirt. I actually know where I can get a second gen for really cheap, running, with 5lug at that. A whole different ball game then, a lot of possibilities of stuff to swap into my 7!!
Sweet, I am now a rotorite!! Lol.
