mint 82 on ebay and bids are high
I saw this too. Looks like the orignal owner cared for the car alot. From the pic's, looks like only the hoses/clamps, alternator, radio and such replacables are not orignal to the car. Wonder what happened to the air snorkle?
Windshield trim could use a little TLC too. I'm not a fan of the high gloss tire shine but all this is very minimal. Overall, the car looks exceptional and unmolested. I'm mostly disapointed in the guy's son who traded the thing in!

Upholstery does not look original to my eye, though it's a good job.
The black hole plugs in the door frames make me think it's been internally rust proofed (like a Ziebart or something)
The relays in front of the brake master are at an odd angle; there's been some wiring work done, or maybe they were just removed for cleaning behind.
There's extra pinstriping on the cowl that's not original - - seems to connect the door parting line to the hood creases. Never seen that before. The rocker panel treatment is also different, but I've seen similar somewhere - might have been a dealer-installed option.
Foglamps not listed on the invoice. Bosch logos on the covers; trying to spot the switch - - maybe lower left side?
Mudflaps.
Small rectangular patch above driver's side door handle - - some kind of decal or nameplate?
Very clean car overall, from what can be seen in pix. Not sure I'd go that high for it, but comforting to know someone will.

Just remember its from Ohio and theres no under body shots. That said the
muffler looks brand spanking new.
Good eye DD! The pin stripes and rocker panel decorations were definitely dealer
options back in the day. I'm sure the mud flaps and fog lights were added by the
owner and it does look like theres something hanging from the area near the
fuse box which might be the switch for the fogs.
If its as good as it looks, the price is fair but a little high at this point.

Fog/driver lights apparently were available from Mazda I would have thought not but there is a local couple that has picked up a GSL and they look like Hella 550's but the plastic covers say Mazda
I totally agree with you guys and second TG's comment on DD's vision. The rocker pannels are an aluminium stick on piece I think. That and the stripes and fog lights were either a dealer add or the original enthusist's modification.
At least the underhood relays are both canted at the same parallel angle. Maybe he tightened them down while on a hill, looks high speed just standing still anyway! The X wheels are also aligned fairly close. Are those aftermarket speakers in the kick pannels? It's got a nice vintage aftermarket RX pannel on the rear too. Another detail worth mentioning is that the rear tow hook is body color.......maybe more than the door got paint?
TG, your right this is strong money for what we are used to seeing, but this is a good thing! Still, it's not over untill the winning bidder actually FOLLOWS THU.

question i have bout the cowl. did they change between the 82 and 84? the vents in mine r shorter and closer to the windshield and has 2 washer nozzles. those r longer, not as many of them and center nozzle. and in the 4th pic down, view of pass side, how the hood is half dull and half shinny.
the seats are an obvious re-do. other things i can see are the non oem hose clamps, radiator cap, reman alternator, non oem plug wires, non oem stereo and equalizer, aftermarket rear hatch struts, and as others have mentioned cheezy lower pinstriping. the fog lights are period correct.
being an ohio resident and RX-7 owners, i can say that this car was well cared for and not winter driven. often times a lot of the cadmium plating on underhood components on nearly all ohio SA's and FB's is usually turned gray and is oxidizing and this car is showing no such signs of deterioration. this leads me to believe that this was an exceptionally well kept car.

Yep, someone cared a great deal for this car. To me, that has value. A nice mix of vintage period upgrades plus they fixed things that wore or broke. It still retains a basically un-altered stock appearance. If I was buying, I'd like knowing that they cared enough to keep it up like this. Even if it's not 100% original.
Dave, DD, is there a specific detail that tells you the seats are not factory covers? I've saw this light grey (whitish) insert color more than a few times. If it's what I think, it's not really a velour insert but more of a twill or something. I have a pair like this out of an SA, which I believe are original and still in exceptional condition.
One thing I've been working on this year is some replacement covers on a future project car. Materials and construction are the two big things to look at. Seatz Manuf make the covers Racing Beat sell and are about the best-most accurate I've found commercially available, off the shelf. Theirs however do not have the piping which seperate the vinyl from the pannel color. (a dead giveaway for those with "DD" vision) These appear to have piping. The thickness and "feel"of orginal covers are also a good method to measure but can't be had through just a visual.
Also, I've been to custom upholstry shops and they tell me that the orginial piping is smaller than what they can (currently) obtain. Maybe it metric or something? Anyways, just picking your brain and experience vault to become more knowlegable.

left front fender's been off, the seam sealers broken, its also been painted, as it doesn't match the rest of the car.
non OEM seat covers, its got the wrong hose clamps, and radiator cap, IE sloppy work.
small things, but we've seen nicer ones go for similar or less $

^that's because that person put in a bid that was quite a bit above the next higher bid so that when someone else puts in the next bid, that person automatically gets out bid by the previous bidder. and it keeps going like that til u finally bid high enough to go beyond that previous bidder. hope that makes sense.
thats why I use hammersnipe for ebay auctions.
looks like a good car. It is disturbing that they photoshop'd the car but it makes sense that all the ugly parts were done like the pedals and shift boot. look closer and you can see they did all the carpet even on passenger side. probably spent some time doing the cig lighter area too. I like it alot. I know mine was cleaner and I paid less though.

I can't even see the pedals.I dont know if it's my eye's look at the paint it has lot's of orange peel and look at the door jams,a car form the factory dose not look like this.Or i could be wrong.. just my 2 cent
i can tell you with certainty that the S2's had three interior color choices, black, brown, and maroon. each had the corresponding color velour insert. the GSL had a completely different seat. the grey inserts are distracting imo. i dont care for them...but then i'm "that" guy who prefers originality and a stock appearance.
